George Clooney spotted hobbling onto the plane with Amal for the first time since his accident
Italian authorities had confirmed that Clooney was involved in a traffic collision while he was riding his scooter near Olbia
George Clooney is still recovering from his serious motorcycle injury which happened on Tuesday morning while he was in Italy. The 57-year-old was driving a scooter, and a Mercedes collided with his vehicle while he was on his way to the sets of a film he's currently doing. It is believed that the driver of the car "suddenly turned" into Clooney's path, blindsiding him.
The actor was spotted leaving Sardinia via private plane along with his wife Amal Clooney who was seen carrying one of their twins - Ella. From the pictures, it is evident that Clooney had to be assisted on the plane. He was seen holding on to the railing tightly as he boarded the plane. However, it did not seem to dampen his spirits and Clooney was spotted smiling at the crew.
The 'Oceans Eleven' actor sported a scraped elbow and cautiously made his way to the private jet. Clooney was able to walk on his own slowly while getting some help from his wife. The couple was seen smiling as they arrived on a golf cart to the tarmac.
Clooney has been in Italy filming the Hulu miniseries 'Catch-22.' Italian authorities had confirmed that Clooney was involved in a traffic collision while he was riding his scooter near Olbia. An Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera obtained shocking footage of the accident from a camera nearby. Clooney was thrown high into the air due to the amount of impact the accident had.
An Italian news agency ANSA quoted the driver Antonello Viglino as saying that he was "stationary on the roadway" and was ready to turn left when two motorcycles appeared from the other direction. According to Viglino, the first rider who is thought to be Clooney's bodyguard managed to dodge the car but the second one "slammed into it."
"I didn't see anything, I had the sun in my eyes," he shared with 'Corriere della Sera.'
According to ET, Clooney was riding at around 60MPH when the Mercedes Benz hit him sending him flying almost 20 feet into the air. It is reported that Clooney's helmet hit the windshield and broke as a result of the massive impact. The authorities believe that the incident occurred around 8:00 am local time and it was the driver of the Mercedes who called the authorities to report the accident.
In the video footage, a motorbike ahead of Clooney is able to avoid a black car when the vehicle abruptly stops but unfortunately for Clooney, the actor is not so lucky and smashes into the car. He was traveling along a state road in Costa Corallina when the accident occurred, and the actor has since been transferred to the emergency room at the John Paul II hospital for treatment. However, his injuries are said to not be serious or life-threatening. An MRI was performed and the results came back negative.
As reported by La Nuova Sardegna, Clooney suffered a slight trauma to his pelvic region and also has bruises on his one knee and one arm. He was soon joined by wife Amal Clooney. He was eventually discharged from the hospital and the pair left together. A rep for Clooney told ET, "George was treated and released from an Olbia hospital. He is recovering at home and will be fine."
The Clooney family, including Amal Clooney and the couple's twins - Alexander and Ella - had relocated to Italy for the filming. Earlier on this month, George and Amal were spotted out together on a romantic date in Sardinia before the accident.
This is not Clooney's first accident and the actor has had a motorcycle accident before. In the year 2007 in September, Clooney fractured a rib when he and his girlfriend at the time Sarah Larson got into an accident in New Jersey. Larson was also injured in the accident and broke her foot.
