George Clooney says he's 'ashamed' of being from Kentucky after no cops were charged in Breonna Taylor's death

Actor George Clooney has currently spoken out after no police officers were charged with the death of Breonna Taylor. Clooney responded to the Kentucky attorney general's remarks which urged those who aren't residents of the state to keep their opinions on the grand jury's decision in Taylor's shooting to themselves, according to a PEOPLE report.

Attorney General Daniel Cameron had said that "there will be celebrities, influencers, and activists who have never lived in Kentucky who try to tell us how to feel." Clooney shared in a statement, "I was born and raised in Kentucky. Cut tobacco on the farms of Kentucky. Both my parents and my sister live in Kentucky. I own a home in Kentucky, and I was there last month." He added, "The justice system I was raised to believe in holds people responsible for their actions."

"Her name was Breonna Taylor and she was shot to death in her bed by 3 white police officers, who will not be charged with any crime for her death. I know the community. I know the commonwealth. And I was taught in the school and churches of Kentucky what is right and what is wrong. I'm ashamed of this decision," he continued.

Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old aspiring nurse, was shot to death by police officers while sleeping inside the bedroom of her Louisville home on March 13. Three others who were involved — Det. Miles Cosgrove, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly and former detective Brett Hankison were not charged with the fatal shooting.

While speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, September 22, Cameron said that nothing determined that Hankison had fired the shot which killed Taylor. Cameron shared that the shot that killed Taylor had been fired by Cosgrove. However, no additional charges had been filed against Cosgrove or Mattingly as "our investigation showed, and the grand jury agreed, Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in their return of deadly fire after having been fired upon by Kenneth Walker," Cameron added.

Walker, who was Taylor's boyfriend, had been with her when police officers had entered the apartment while executing a no-knock search warrant in an investigation in drug dealing. Taylor's attorney, Ben Crump had taken to Twitter to comment on the announcement that there were no murder charges against the accused.

"If Brett Hankison's behavior was wanton endangerment to people in neighboring apartments, then it should have been wanton endangerment in Breonna Taylor's apartment too. In fact, it should have been ruled wanton murder!" Crump said online.

Many other celebrities took to commenting on the announcement of no charges against the cops. Megan Rapinoe had written, "My heart is with the family of Breonna Taylor right now. My god. This is devastating and unfortunately not surprising. Black and brown folx in this country deserve so much more. #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeforBreonnaTalyor #DefundPolice #RegisterToVote."

Colin Kaepernick also weighed in and wrote, "The white supremacist institution of policing that stole Breonna Taylor’s life from us must be abolished for the safety and well being of our people. #BreonnaTaylor #SayHerName #AbolishThePolice."

"This is why police need to be defunded and ultimately abolished! We time and time again hope for a sliver of justice but why would we get that when the system is designed to protect the very folks that are murdering and terrorizing us. This isn’t a bad apple, it’s a rotten tree," wrote Layshia Clarendon.
