George Clooney and wife Amal said they 'didn't know' Harry and Meghan in shocking revelation to Diana's pal at wedding
George and Amal Clooney reportedly confessed that they didn't know the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just moments before the royal wedding took place, it has been claimed.
Actor George, 59, and his wife human rights advocate Amal, 42, were among the 600 guests who had witnessed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exchange vows at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle back in May 2018, reports Daily Mail.
As a sign of the closeness of their relationship to the couple, the Clooneys were reportedly given a 'prime pew' next to Lady Carolyn Warren who is the wife of John Warren, the Queen's bloodstock adviser, and opposite Princess Margaret's son Viscount Linley.
However, it is said that the Clooneys had reportedly told other guests they didn't know the couple well at all, as per journalist Rachel Johnson. In an online publication AirMail, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's sister had written, "There’s a story doing the rounds that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan."
"'We don’t', the Clooneys answered brightly," Johnson claimed. Carolyn, who attended the wedding along with her husband William, is Harry's godmother, and was privy to secret information when she had first met Charles. She had been given one of the best seats in the house which was opposite to Prince William and Prince Charles, as per Daily Mail.
Johnson further added that many other celebrities were invited to the wedding including Oprah Winfrey, James Corden, and David and Victoria Beckham who "could not possibly be old and dear friends of the bridal couple."
Winfrey, Serena Williams, and her husband Alexis Ohanian were seated next to the Clooneys, while the Beckhams, James Corden, and his wife were seated further away. Both George and Amal had caused a stir when they arrived at the royal wedding. It is believed that George had danced with both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. There have been varying reports as to how well the Clooneys knew the couple. According to Harry and Meghan's biography, 'Finding Freedom' claims that the Clooneys had hosted the couple twice on at least two occasions at their British home in Sonning, in Oxfordshire.
In the book, it is mentioned that Harry and Meghan had brought their dogs with them and that George and Amal loved to take their friends out by the lake. "There, they had a secluded decked area and inside was a lounge decorated with traditional club wood paneling, heavy drapes, dark velvets, plush chairs, and a bar," the book says.
The biography has also claimed that the Clooneys had invited Harry and Meghan to join them at Lake Como just weeks after the royal wedding. A source shared, "Meghan and Amal spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool and playing with the twins while George and Harry checked out George's motorbike collection. Harry took one of them out with one of his protection officers. George recently had an accident, so he wasn't back on his bike yet."
"The duke and duchess weren't the only guests that weekend. Eugenie and her fiance, Jack Brooksbank, were already at the villa when Harry and Meghan arrived, their visits overlapping briefly," the source added.
