The ‘House of the Dragon’ premiere was everything that fans hoped it to be and surpassed all expectations. When we started watching the show, we knew that there would be an abundance of drama, violence, betrayal, sex scenes, and of course, dragons. However, one thing that viewers didn’t expect to see was the intimate relationship between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) and her friend Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), daughter of Hand of the Ser Otto Hightower.

While the first episode primarily established all the characters and the conflicting relationship between King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), viewers could not stop focusing on Rhaenyra and Alicent’s relationship, which seemed low-key romantic. During the premiere, we saw the two female characters were inseparable and share all things with each other. However, they are different in most aspects. Rhaenyra is a “free soul” and wants to do things on her terms while Alicent is more of an “obedient” child who follows the orders of her father. In one of the scenes, Rhaenyra put her head on Alicent’s lap and discussed how she wanted to travel the whole world with her on a dragon and eat cake.

On the other hand, the way they held their hands during the tourney made us realize that they might be more than just “friends” because of their closeness. However, things got a bit heated up when Princess Rhaenyra was getting ready to be announced as the new heir. It was Alicent who dressed her for the event and the way they hugged each other made everyone believe that they undoubtedly are “gay”. We have seen a lot of things in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. From incestuous relationships to having mistresses, the mysterious world ‘of ‘GOT’ doesn’t shy away from taking a bold route. However, a lesbian relationship will be a game-changer and can explore the fantasy world in a different way.

As far as the relationship between Alicent and Rhaenyra is concerned, it’s not just us who felt that way. A lot of social media users felt that something beautiful is brewing between the characters and they were “all in” for that.

One of the fans wrote, “Rhaenyra and Alicent (‘House of the Dragon’) are cottagecore lesbians ever.. “I wanna go ride a Dragon with you and eat cake” WHILE LAYING TOGETHER ON THE GRASS??? THAT’S GAY.” Another user said, “House of the Dragon said gay rights”. Another social media user tweeted, “The straights are watching ‘House of the Dragon’ for Matt Smith, gays are watching ‘House of the Dragon’ for Rhaenyra/Alicent lesbian divorce drama vibes.” Another fan noted, “If these two girls in ‘House of the Dragon’ aren’t gay for each other, I’m going to lose my f*****g mind.”

“Just watched ‘House of the Dragon’. Those two are definitely gay,” wrote another user. “House of the Dragons thoughts: Rhaenyra and Alicent are giving me gay vibes,” said another one. “The first time Rhaenyra and Alicent made eye contact I immediately said “oh lesbians!” out loud,” wrote another user.
