Gabrielle Union slams Terry Crews for saying 'America's Got Talent' was the 'most diverse place' in his career
Gabrielle Union seems to have lashed out at 'America's Got Talent' host Terry Crews' comments questioning her allegations of racism and sexism on the sets of the ABC series.
Without taking his name, Union wrote a series of scathing tweets after his appearance on '3rd Hour of Today'. She praised the "multiple witnesses who bravely came forward to let everyone know" she wasn't lying and slammed "those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus."
"Truth-telling, wanting change & having MULTIPLE witnesses who bravely came forward to let EVERYONE know I didn’t lie or exaggerate, really exposes those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus, forgetting quickly who stepped up 4 THEIR truth," she tweeted,
This comment is a direct reference to the time she stood up for Crews when he accused WME agent Adam Venit of sexually assaulting him in 2016.
She wrote, "Can someone please ask abt what happens to all that diversity folks are talking about BEHIND THE SCENES. Like, legit... where the hell is all that diversity in the production though homie? In the decision making ranks who control the fate of the diversity in front of the camera?"
She added, "Let's also talk about where the diversity is in the hair & makeup dept for contestants that DOES NOT reflect all that diversity that hits the stage. Let's Google the exec's that run the show & ask follow up ?? about THAT egregious lack of diversity. Let's discuss the facts."
Following Union's exit from the show, Crews had said that 'America's Got Talent' was the most diverse place he had ever worked in.
"First of all, I can't speak for sexism because I'm not a woman, but I can speak on behalf of any racism comments," Crews had said during an interview on Thursday. "That was never my experience on 'America's Got Talent'."
"In fact, it was the most diverse place I have ever been in my 20 years of entertainment," he added.
In November last year, it was announced that judges Julianne Hough and Union would be leaving the show after just one season. Later, insiders told Variety about an allegedly "toxic" environment on the sets, including allegations that Union was told that her hairstyle was "too black".
Union had brought these issues to the producers. Union's husband, Dwyane Wade, had also defended her with a message on social media.
“So when i got the news that my wife was being fired—my first question was obviously why!? Iam still waiting on a good answer to that question. But if anyone knows @itsgabrielleu or have heard of her you know she's an advocate for our community and culture," he posted.
A show source addressed the allegations to Page Six stating, "Ensuring a safe environment is so important to the show. Anytime someone comes forward and has issues, we take things very seriously."
