Comedian Bob Saget died on Sunday, January 9. The cause of his death is not known yet. The 65-year-old was in Florida when the incident happened and, tragically a few days prior to his sudden demise, he had his last interview with News4JAX’s Bruce Hamilton, where he had a discussion on his past, present, and future.

Saget spoke with Hamilton on Jan 5 and fondly recalled his mentor at Philadelphia's Temple University. When the anchor asked him about the late Lew Klein, who was a professor at Temple University, the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor replied: “You’re gonna make me cry, he was like a dad to me.”

He noted that it was Klein who helped him in getting an internship on ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ at the start of his career. “That was my first indoctrination into show business, I was 19,” he said as he continued: “Lew Klein cared so much about students, I’ve had a couple of those teachers. When you get a teacher like that in your life, it’s a real gift, anybody watching who knows what I’m saying, both of my sisters were teachers and there’s nothing like it if you’re a good teacher and he literally helped me, and he would talk with me and then we lost him not too long ago, which is very sad.”

During the interview, Saget also mentioned his comedy trip to Florida, where he performed Saturday, January 8, a day before his death. “I’m leaving tomorrow to be there so I can be, I’m going to Orlando and then I’m coming right to Jacksonville, I think it’s my third time in Jacksonville in about a year. We comedians have to go where comedy is loud and I’ve had great times in Florida, and I’m going back, it’s really a nice theater too, it’s small,” he said.

The father-of-three daughters also told Hamilton how he and his comedy have evolved over the years. He said, “I really love doing standup now more than I ever have, and I don’t talk politics, I don’t talk religion, I just want to make people laugh and I don’t want dissension in the room. I just want to make people have a good time and have a good night out, I’m getting ready to do a new special so we got to go on the road.”

Saget then went on to talk about his podcast ‘Bob Saget's Here For You’, which he started in April 2020 and noted: “I just love to do it. Everywhere where you are, you’re making people feel better, and that’s my job, and we get into the thick of it sometimes but it also depends if I have a comedian on ... it’s really a fun thing to do.”

Tragically, Saget’s final social media post was also about his future plans. On Saturday, Jan 8, after his show, he took to Instagram and wrote about “finding my new voice”. He also shared dates of his upcoming shows. Posting a picture of himself from Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, Saget penned, “Okay, I loved tonight’s show @pontevedra_concerthall in Jacksonville. Really nice audience. Lots of positivity. Happened last night in Orlando last night at the Hard Rock Live too. Very appreciative and fun audiences. Thanks again to @comediantimwilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a two hour set tonight.”

He went on to say, “I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it. A’ight, see you in two weeks Jan. 28 & 29 @pbimprov with my brother @therealmikeyoung - And check BobSaget.com for my dates in 2022,” before adding, “Goin’ everywhere until I get the special shot. And then probably keep going cause I’m addicted to this shit. Peace out.”

The ‘Full House’ actor was found dead inside his room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando. Hotel security saw him first at four in the evening. The Orange County Sheriff's Office took to Twitter to confirm his death by writing: “Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room. The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case. #BobSaget.”

Soon after news of Saget’s death was out, tributes began to pour in. Actor John Stamos tweeted, “I am broken. I am gutted.  I am in complete and utter shock.  I will never ever have another friend like him.  I love you so much Bobby.” Comedian Jon Stewart said, “Bob Saget… Just the funniest and nicest…” Gilbert Gottfried added: “Still in shock. I just spoke with Bob a few days ago. We stayed on the phone as usual making each other laugh. RIP to friend, comedian & fellow Aristocrat Bob Saget.”
