Kanye West has been speaking out against the music industry and its unfair contracts relentlessly. Causing a Twitter storm, West, at one point, posted a video of himself peeing on his Grammy Award and, later, tweeted every single page from his contract with record label giant Universal Music Group.

He also went after the French mass media conglomerate Vivendi, the parent company of the Universal Music Group, and posted numerous screenshots of his conversations with his lawyers and Vivendi bosses.

After causing a huge uproar across Twitter, West suddenly stopped tweeting. Fans wondered if the rapper is done for the night but, soon, former basketball player and actor Rick Fox tweeted about the situation saying, "My friend Kanye West wants you all to know that he was kicked off of Twitter for 12 hours," after which he started trending on the micro-blogging site.

Initially, some fans were confused as to why Fox was trending, like this one user who wrote, "Just peeped why Rick Fox is trending....And that’s my night."

Fox's tweet, which Twitter users thought of as random and surprising, set off a quick reaction. Soon, Twitter was flooded with memes, jokes, questions, and criticism of Fox's latest reveal about West. One user, expressing disbelief over Fox's West Twitter ban announcement, tweeted, "LMFAO. Idk what’s funnier, the fact that he was kicked off or that he’s using Rick Fox as his spokesperson," while another, talking about how funny the situation is, wrote, "If rick fox telling us Kanye got kicked off Twitter ain’t funny to you in some way then our humor ain’t aligned." Pointing out the absurdity of the situation, one user wrote, "The fact that he probably got a text from Kanye saying 'rick fox my friend please tell Twitter that I was kicked off for 12 hours. We got Love. Thank u'." While another quipped, referencing Fox's numerous roles on TV shows, "If there's anything Rick Fox gon do, he gon come in as a guest role mid season. Lol." Another fan wrote, "Kanye was kicked off twitter and his first thought was 'i HAVE to tell rick fox'."

Soon after it was revealed that West has been banned by Twitter for 12 hours, the hashtag #FreeYe started to trend on the platform. Rapper Consequence, supporting West, tweeted, "My bro @kanyewest is using his voice + platform to invoke for the financial betterment of Artist in genre and beyond. @Twitter should unlock his Acct NOW so he can get to work #FreeYe". Another fan, calling for the ban on Kanye to be lifted, said, "They are silencing Ye, give him back his Twitter account! #FreeYe." A West fan, echoing his thoughts and words, wrote, "The modern day black corporate 'house keepers' be like 'oh no dont say that, you will lose your job, they will say you are racist'  FYI I am not a house keeper, defying the odds! #FreeYe while we at it!"

However, some weren't that receptive to jokes and memes but were rather critical of West's behavior. The official handle of the Palmer Report, the American left-wing political blog, tweeted, "Your friend Kanye West appears to be a danger to himself and he’s in need of professional help. He’s also trying to screw up the most important presidential election of our lifetime. For so many reasons, please get your friend some help, and get him out of the public eye for now." Another user, parodying Fox's tweet, wrote, "My friend Kanye West wants you all to know that the soft serve machine is down at the McDonald's on Sunset & Western. Don't even bother getting in the drive thru. Sorry Rick Fox, I guess he didn't trust you on this one," while another, posting a meme and many emojis, wrote, "Kanye: Hmmmmm... Who should I call about this f**k-s**t? I’m a genius so I know I’ll come up with the best person sooner or later. Ahhhhhh! That’s it!...I’ll call 2002 NBA champion Rick Fox."

West recently revealed that he won't be releasing any new music till he's free of his Sony/Universal contracts. Fox, on the other hand, is known for playing in the NBA for Boston Celtics and LA Lakers. He has also appeared in numerous TV shows in a few episodes like 'The Big Bang Theory', 'Melrose Place', 'Shameless', 'Franklin & Bash', among others.
