Who was Freddy Garcia? Texas man, 71, mauled to death by SEVEN pit bulls while on his way to store
FRESNO, TEXAS: Seven pit bulls mauled a 71-year-old man to death in Texas while he was walking to the corner store in Texas. On July 18, at about 1:30 pm, Freddy Garcia, a resident of Fresno, was strolling through his neighborhood to a store when seven pit bulls mercilessly attacked him. Garcia was transported by air to Memorial Hermann, a medical facility in the heart of Houston. He was later pronounced dead from the attack.
In relation to the fatal attack, Samuel Cartwright, the putative owner of pit bulls was taken into custody. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office reported that four pit bulls were apprehended immediately after the incident. Three other pit bulls were on the loose for some time before being taken captive. Officials remained mum on whether the animals will be put to death. Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton will decide the fate of the pit bulls involved in the horrific incident.
An investigation by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Bend Animal Control, and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office connected Samuel Cartwright to the seven pit bulls. A second-degree felony accusation of dog attack causing death was brought against Cartwright, 47. A two to 20-year prison sentence may also be imposed in response to the charge. Cartwright's bond was set at $100,000. According to KRPC-TV, Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan, “This devastating tragedy didn’t have to happen. I extend my deepest condolences to the Garcia family and his neighbors as they adjust to the loss of Mr Garcia. Special thanks go out to our deputies, Fort Bend Animal Services Director Rene Vasquez, and Fort Bend District Attorney Brian Middleton for the collaborative work of capturing the dogs and making an arrest.”
