NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Fox & Friends' host Brian Kilmeade recently discussed fellow Fox News host Greg Gutfeld's rise to fame on the late show after 'The Tonight Show' Jimmy Fallon's 2016 interview with Donald Trump

Gutfeld referred to Fallon's 2016 interview with the former President as a "great moment in television."

Gutfeld appeared on the talk show to promote his forthcoming book, to which Kilmeade found a special reference to Fallon's fall from grace after he was essentially accused of influencing the presidential election.

The two conservative hosts came to Fallon's defense for being "funny" and called the apology issued by him in the aftermath of the interview an unnecessary publicity move.

Brian Kilmeade says Jimmy Fallon 'never recovered'

Gutfeld's latest book, 'The King of Late Night,' traces his journey and experiences in the world of TV talk shows. The conversation between him and Kilmeade fell on the iconic comedy host Jimmy Fallon.

"Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon was funny with or without Trump," Kilmeade referred to an excerpt from the book.

"And he never recovered because he 'normalized' the President of the United States...It set the groundwork for you [Gutfeld] to be the king of late night," Kilmeade added.

The two hosts are specifically referring to Fallon's interview with Donald Trump prior to the Presidential Election of 2016.

It was a significant moment for television, especially since Fallon used to famously impersonate the former President for his comedic sketches.

Fallon was then accused of having influenced voters because of his popular show which led to the interview with Trump going viral.

He went on to release an apology for "normalizing" the president for the American population and suggesting that he endorsed the opinions held by the GOP politician.

The two Fox News hosts shared their disapproval of the public's reaction to the interview and the eventual safe play by Fallon.

"That's nuts, he's funny!" Kilmeade said.

"This was a great moment in television" Gutfeld reacted to Fallon's apology played on 'Fox & Friends.'

"And that apology is one of the saddest things you'll ever hear because Fallon, he's a good guy, nice guy. He just wants to have a good time; he doesn't want politics or anything," he added.

Gutfeld went on to add that the apology was just a publicity move that made Fallon's show's stance political.

"He had to do that pathetic hostage apology," he continued.

"Because his publicist made him do it...It was just so sad that he was more concerned about how he was going to be treated outside his own show by all these liberals, agents, and all the people at NBC," he added.
