The former first lady Michelle Obama has revealed some "deeply personal" thoughts about former POTUS Barack Obama in her book 'Becoming'.

Michelle revealed that she would notice how Barack would regularly be awake at night when they had begun dating. When she asked him what was wrong, his answer was extremely heartbreaking.

In the book, she wrote, "I woke one night to find him staring at the ceiling, his profile lit by the glow of the streetlights outside. He looked vaguely troubled as if he was pondering something deeply personal."

She wrote saying that she wondered whether he was upset about the death of his father, but Obama responded to his wife saying, "I was just thinking about income inequality."

According to a report by the Express, Michelle wrote saying that she was learning how "Barack's mind worked".

Her heartfelt confession comes as she spoke about her and Obama's life post the White House.

In the book, Michelle also praised her husband for being different from anyone else she had met.

She admitted that he "intrigued her". "He was not like anyone I’d dated before, mainly because he seemed so secure. He was openly affectionate. He told me I was beautiful," she wrote.

The mother of two also revealed an intimate detail about their private life hoping that young couples will understand that "marriage is work".

She spoke to CBS host Gayle King and said that she and Obama cannot be role models if they don't tell people the truth.

"My view is that we can't be up here as role models and not be telling people the truth about life and relationships. Marriage is work. Marriage is hard."

The couple has been married for 27  years and has two daughters together.

"This is the beauty of finding a partner you really love and respect - because after all the highs and lows, the ups and downs we've been through, we have each other, which makes the journey worth it," she added.

Michelle also recently spoke about the current state of US politics but was quick to shut down any suggestions that she was running for the presidency.

She insisted that running for the post of president is not something that she wanted to do.
