On the night of Wednesday, December 16, former Baltimore Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro died at the age of 28. The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office confirmed the news on Facebook.

According to the post shared by the sheriff’s office on Facebook, deputies were dispatched to the 100 Block of Windsor Lane at roughly 3.07 pm on Wednesday for a person in need of medical attention. After medics arrived, they transported the patient to a local hospital, where he later died. The office added that they could not reveal any details about Taliaferro's cause of death. "Lorenzo Taliaferro was 28 years old. We cannot release any medical information. Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends," the post read.

A former Bruton High football player, Taliaferro played with the Ravens from 2014 to 2017. He was named Big South Conference Offensive Player of the Year and was also a Walter Payton Award finalist. Taliaferro played three years in the NFL playing for the Ravens — a career that can be summed up in 229 yards and five touchdowns.

Over the course of the years that he was a professional athlete, Taliaferro earned a lot of praise, acclaim and following. He also earned a lot of dough. While NFL salaries ranged from $400,000-$600,000 per year when he was playing for the Ravens, his four-year contract stood at $2,520,584 — his signing bonus was $300,584 and average salary $630,146. Other reports mention that his largest cash payment was for $706,819 in 2014. This takes his career earnings to $1,691,878.

His biggest fans and members of the Coastal Carolina and Yorktown community took to Twitter to share their thoughts about his demise. "RIP Zo. For anyone who didn't know what kind of a man Lorenzo Taliaferro was, this was an email I sent the @Ravens back in 2014 about a great deed he performed for a group of stranded @CCUChanticleers parents just looking to get to their kids. @CoastalFootball @coastalfans" one tweeted. "Zo was a hero to so many and always proud to be a Bruton Panther. Always humble and made time for the kids who looked up to him so much! Heartbroken" another added.
