Amy Harrington: Woman tries to evade DUI test by Irish folk dancing, cops channel inner Simon Cowell!
PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA: Though driving under the influence is a serious charge in the eyes of the law, a Florida woman tried to evade the DUI test by pulling off a cheeky stunt. The 38-year-old woman identified as Amy Harrington got pulled over for alleged drunken driving but tried to prove her sobriety by performing an Irish folk dance in front of the cops.
According to The Daily Mail, Amy Harrington of Madeira Beach bumped her car into another vehicle when she was only a mile away from her home on April 27, as revealed by the cops to WFLA. The cops from Pinellas County said the woman’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. According to them, Harrington tried to walk a straight line during a sobriety test along a parking space marker. She then soon gave up the idea and started dancing. The body cam footage that emerged on Saturday, August 27 showed Harrington trying to impress the cops with her dancing skills.

Amy Harrington, in the video, can be seen standing in a dark parking lot in front of a straight line as two cops look on. According to the footage, the woman in her late 30s began walking the line but stumbled on her fourth step. She then quickly transitioned into a dance number.
The video shows Harrington clad in a black skirt and white top dancing wildly, twirling and hopping as she tried to impress the cops with her Irish folk dance. According to the cops, Harrington “struggled to follow instructions, and was unsteady on her feet almost falling”, as revealed in the arrest documents. Having enough of her dance routine, a deputy administering the test asked, “Do you want to pay attention so I can give you the instructions”.
To this, the Florida native responded, “Yeah, well, you sound like my ballet coach, so, sounds about right,” while still pulling off a move. One of the cops then quipped, “That wasn’t good.” According to the publication, the cops revealed that Harrington then proceeded to break into “multiple ballet and Irish folk dance moves.” In the footage, the woman can be seen waving her arms and dancing around the line. The unimpressed cops later can be seen handcuffing Harrington.
She reportedly refused to take the test the second time after a separate incident in Pinellas County in 2019. In her latest, she was charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to testing. The cops revealed that a cup containing liquid smelling of alcohol was found in the cup holder of Harrington's car.
