NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In the season finale of 'Shark Tank', Samantha Coxe pitches Flaus, her sustainably created electric flosser. She is on a mission to help people preserve their teeth for life by making dental care more accessible, prioritizing oral health, and, most difficult of all, making flossing enjoyable.

Oral hygiene is one of assistive technology's lesser-known applications. As with fitness and weight, society is obsessed with having perfectly straight and pearly white teeth, complete with the healthiest gums.

From a health standpoint, they are all excellent goals. It's beneficial to have healthy teeth and gums. Similarly, striving for idealism is not necessarily a feasible goal.

Many people with impairments may be unable to maintain healthy teeth and gums. It is stated that those with cerebral palsy have the poorest oral health.

This is mostly because cleaning one's teeth may be a futile and frustrating activity due to the motor skills required to get a toothbrush in and around the mouth. Less "careful" brushing results in unclean teeth and a variety of unpleasant conditions, such as gingivitis and periodontal disease.

The main point here is that, despite the desire to have healthy teeth and avoid the stigmas associated with poor oral health, not everyone can care for their teeth properly. In other words, the issue is less about laziness and more about function and ability.

The same goes for flossing. No matter how much someone wants to achieve it, it is often simply not possible.

Enter Samantha and the Flaus crew.

What is Flaus from 'Shark Tank' Season 15?

Flaus is a Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to developing the dental care of the future, decreasing waste, and supporting sustainable behaviors.

The Flaus Electric Flosser combines the ease of an electric toothbrush with the advantages of flossing. It is intended to make flossing more pleasant, easy, and more efficient than previous approaches.

The flosser generates 18,000 sonic vibrations per minute, stimulating and massaging the gums while making it easier to reach tiny places between the teeth. The ergonomic, soft-touch handle gives you complete control over hard-to-reach places while keeping fingers and bacteria out of the mouth.

Flaus' floss heads come equipped with high-performance glide floss composed of Polytetrafluoroethylene monofilament tape, which is strong enough to clean even the narrowest teeth without tearing. The heads are constructed of recyclable plastic, using 30% less plastic than typical floss picks.

Flaus also provides a free recycling scheme for discarded heads, which promotes sustainability.

The flosser is waterproof (IPX7 certified) and portable, making it ideal for use in the shower, on the sofa, or when traveling. It boasts a two-month battery life and includes a charging base and USB-C connector.

Flaus was conceived and manufactured under the supervision of dental specialists to provide the greatest possible cleaning.

Flaus provides an Electric Flosser Starter Kit, which contains the flosser, 45 recyclable mint floss heads, a charging base, and a USB-C charging cord. The flosser is UL-approved, patented, and FDA-registered and comes with a full one-year guarantee.

Flaus' goal is to encourage healthy habits and improve overall oral hygiene by making flossing as quick, easy, and comfortable as brushing teeth, resulting in better dental health and cost savings for its customers.

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), performed clinical experiments that demonstrated that electric flossers, when used in conjunction with a manual toothbrush. It removes plaque substantially better than a toothbrush alone. According to studies, electric flossers are more successful than hand flossing in eliminating interproximal plaque from molars, premolars, and anterior teeth.

Who is the founder of Flaus from 'Shark Tank'?

Samantha Coxe founded Flaus after getting a huge dental bill for failing to floss consistently. Despite her habit of brushing her teeth twice a day, she found flossing time-consuming and unpleasant.

Recognizing the need for a better solution, she quit her corporate career as an Mergers and acquisitions attorney at Skadden, Arps, to follow her dream of disrupting the flossing business, which had been unaltered for almost 200 years.

Samatha's passion and trust in her idea drove her to invest her own resources and raise $2 million from friends and family before receiving an additional $2 million seed round led by Yeti Capital. Her career as an attorney at a prominent law firm, where she assisted high-growth businesses throughout their full life cycle, gave her the skills and knowledge she needed to handle the hurdles of entrepreneurship.

She attended the University of Southern California, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Psychology and received her JD from New York University School of Law.

Furthermore, she presently resides in New York City, New York, although her hometown is San Clemente, California.

What is the cost and how to buy Flaus from 'Shark Tank'?

Flaus costs $119 and comes with 45 reusable floss heads. Replacement heads cost $19 a box of 90.

If you want to purchase Flaus for $99, simply subscribe, and they will automatically mail 90 replacement heads every 90 days.

On their website, buyers have left reviews including, "I like my new Flosser" and "I would like to receive refills every three months. I am very pleased with how easy it has made flossing between my tight teeth. I showed the Flaus to my dentist and he had not seen it before and was impressed. Thanks to you I no longer have to put my hands in my mouth to floss my tight teeth in the back of my mouth. There have only been a few times that the floss has broken and I’ve had to replace to finish flossing my back teeth. Since I am going to be on auto ship every three months, if you change the pricing, please notify me in advance. Thank you from a happy customer!!"

Another person added, "Flaus make it easy to purchase and maintain their product. Well done." A fourth user added, "The product is a great way to floss consistently, it works well, helps navigate tight teeth and is super easy to use. Go Flaus, this product is a game changer."

Where is dental care product Flaus from 'Shark Tank' now?

Samantha launched an Indiegogo campaign in April 2021 to test if her idea would acquire commercial momentum. She understood that she couldn't focus on Flaus while still practicing law.

She resigned from the practice and started the campaign. Samantha chose to focus all of her time and efforts on Flaus.

Flaus has raised nearly $3.5 million in total, including venture capital investments and an Indiegogo campaign.

Flaus pre-sold almost $300,000 of its electric flosser hero product on IndieGoGo, with additional funding from friends and family. Samantha most certainly wants a Shark to help her climb rapidly.

Who will steal the deal in 'Shark Tank' Season 15?

When a firm enters the Tank alongside other investors, fans constantly worry about the entrepreneur presenting their business. The Sharks often seek a larger part of the pie than traditional venture capitalists.

It's often a dealbreaker. We don't know whether Samantha is lucrative yet, which makes the Sharks nervous.

Her experience is in mergers and acquisitions, so she'll be able to discuss the figures with more subtlety than most 'Shark Tank' presenters. If there are any offers, Samantha may find them too expensive.
