A five-year-old boy lost his life after a dog furiously attacked him. The victim, whose name has not been revealed, was reportedly house-sitting a property in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast when the house owner’s dog — a cross between a bull terrier and an American bulldog — pounced on him, severely injuring his back and neck.

The horrifying incident reportedly happened around midday on December 24, a day before Christmas. The attack also gave the child cardiac arrest. Though he was soon rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital, where emergency surgery was performed on him, he died eventually.

The boy’s grandmother, who is in her 40s, also suffered injuries when she tried to save the little one's life. She is reportedly being treated for her wounds as well as for shock. She’s reportedly in a stable condition now. Queensland Ambulance Service's Paul Young said: “They were house-sitting a house, so it's not their dog and they were playing in the backyard and apparently the dog just turned.” The canine responsible for the tragedy has reportedly been taken to a council pound as police continue to probe the case.

People reacted to the sad news on Twitter. One person wrote, “Owners of these dogs should be charged with manslaughter if their dog kills...  i though[t] American pit bulls where banned here.” “It’s time to say no more pity bull dogs of any description allowed they attack more people than sharks and crocs,” a second one added.

A user paid tribute to the deceased child by tweeting, “RIP sweet boy.” Another one commented, “Damn pitt bulls again. More dangerous than Omicron.” Another tweet remarked, “pitbulls need to be eradicated”.

This comes days after a four-year-old Oklahoma boy's arm was ripped off by his grandparents’ dog. The devastating incident happened on December 10 when Axel Foster was at his grandparents’ home and was trying to pet the puppies. Describing the severity of the attack, Chief JR Kidney, from the Tecumseh Police Department, said: “I've seen dog bites in the past and experienced some pretty brutal dog bites with children but never a complete amputation. The child's arm was still in the pen. When officers and animal control attempted to retrieve the arm, the dog became aggressive to them.” And, officer Aaron McCormick stated, “I could see the arm inside, and one of the puppies was trying to chew on it.”

The devastated mother of the kid Destiny McDow said, “We raced to the hospital. When we got there, the nurses confirmed his arm was dismembered from his body. I don't know what he's going through. I never went through it. But he's only a child.” McDow also began a GoFundMe to raise money for her son’s treatment.

The message on the fundraiser read that as the mother “arrived at the hospital they had informed her that her FOUR YEAR OLD SONS ARM WAS DISMEMBERED, and he was in immediate surgery to reattach his arm to his shoulder. This happened while in the supervision/care of his father, his grandfather, and step-grandmother. He has undergone two surgeries, and is still fighting not only to keep his arm but his life. I am asking for help to save my baby boys life. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.”
