'A legacy of creativity’: Vivienne Westwood remembered by Jamie Lee Curtis, Victoria Beckham and Billy Idol

LONDON, UK: Dame Vivienne Westwood died on Thursday, December 29, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Westwood's career took off in the 1960s and she was primarily known for her off-beat designs, T-shirts with slogans, and wicked attitude toward the establishment. She was also active in spreading awareness about social issues like pollution and climate change. The celebrated fashion designer was remembered by many from the industry like Jamie Lee Curtis, Victoria Beckham, singer Billy Idol, and more.

The heartbreaking news was posted on the 81-year-old fashion designer's Instagram which has 3 million followers. It read, "Vivienne Westwood died today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London. The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better. Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. Her innovation and impact over the last 60 years has been immense and will continue into the future." Victoria Beckham also remembered Westwood in an Instagram story that read, "I’m so sad to learn of the passing of legendary designer and activist Dame Vivienne Westwood. My thoughts are with her family at this incredibly sad time VB."

Tributes pour in for Vivienne Westwood

American singer Mod Sun tweeted, "I love you Vivienne Westwood, you changed my life so many times. What you did for fashion + music will never be forgotten. Your efforts with activism to save this planet were so selfless + pure. We were so lucky to have you, long love the queen of punk. RIP." Jamie Lee Curtis posted, "Westwood has died. She was a brilliant creator, bold, brash, unique. She influenced SO MANY and gave them the permission to be themselves and beyond themselves. My longtime hairdresser and friend @seanjameshair has been a devotee and brand ambassador forever. She is tattooed all over him and was his muse. What a legacy of creativity she will always be."
