Why was Roseanne Barr canceled?
Back in 2018, Barr was in a tweet exchange with Valerie Jarrett, former adviser to Barack Obama, where she called Jarrett as “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” She later on issued an apology stating, “It was 2 in the morning and I was Ambien tweeting,” Barr tweeted. “It was Memorial Day too. I went too far and do not want it defended. It was egregious [and] indefensible.”“I think Joe Rogan is right about AmbienNot giving excuses for what I did (tweeted) but I’ve done weird stuff while on Ambien: cracked eggs on the wall at 2am etc," she said. Barr then wrote: “I apologise to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste," as per The Guardian.

In another note shared to the media, she also said, "I deeply regret my comments from late last night on Twitter. Above all, I want to apologize to Valerie Jarrett, as well as to ABC and the cast and crew of the Roseanne show. I am sorry for making a thoughtless joke that does not reflect my values - I love all people and am very sorry. Today my words caused hundreds of hardworking people to lose their jobs. I also sincerely apologize to the audience that has embraced my work for decades. I apologize from the bottom of my heart and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me."However, ABC canceled her sitcom, 'Roseanne.' Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment said, "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show." There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing," as per ABC.
What did Roseanne Barr say in new comedy special?
In the cip, the 70-year-old can be seen saying, "These people, they have no concept of reality. They've been living in a bubble forever. Asking questions have nothing to do with the real world." She further added, "What is my gender, mom? What is my gender?' she joked, Your gender is, get a job. That's your gender." She then said," What are they thinking? Ask a - what is a woman? They don't know that? That one they're asking all the time. What is a woman? I'll tell you what a woman is. A woman is me." Later, she stated, "That's what a woman is, okay? A woman is someone who cleans up everybody else's shit. That's what a woman is. A woman is somebody whose boobs hang down to her knees with a prolapsed uterus from giving birth to five ungrateful little privileged bastards that have never had to work for anything in their whole damn life. My pronouns are, kiss my ass."
How does Roseanne Barr feel about her return?
In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Barr said, "At first it was terrifying. I was really afraid because I didn’t know how people were going to respond. I was afraid to even go outside for a while. So I would go to comedy clubs around the West here, and these friends of mine would call me up on stage to do five or 10 minutes. That helped. Joe Rogan helped me a lot. And it got easier and easier. People showed me so much love. I was kind of overwhelmed by that."
She further added, "I just was so happy that when I looked out in the audience there, the bond between myself and them was not broken. I have a large African American and people of color fan base. I always felt horrible and wondered whether that would go away. That was always so important to me, because my whole career had started in jazz clubs and in neighborhoods where working-class people lived and where I lived. I was afraid that this horrible experience would poison all that. But there it was in all its majesty and beauty. I was performing to a beautiful, diverse audience. And that made me so happy."
Roseanne Barr's thoughts on canceling ABC's 'Roseanne'
When asked, if she felt that she was betrayed by the cast and the people you worked with on 'Roseanne,' she added, "I can’t know what they think or feel. I don’t know why they did what they did. I’m not like them. I realized that. I can’t believe what they did, with all the pain that I went through to bring the show back. And it didn’t faze them to murder my character, either. They s— on my contribution to television and the show itself. But I forgive everybody. I started thinking that God took me out of there to save me. And once I started thinking that way, I was, like, a lot better off."
The comedian also added her thoughts on canceling the show, "They didn’t do it to anyone else in Hollywood, although they always throw in Dave Chappelle and Louis CK. Well, Louis CK did lose everything, but he committed an actual [offense]. [CK admitted in 2017 that he repeatedly masturbated in front of women associates, and his FX show “Louie” was canceled.] And Dave Chappelle was protected by Netflix. [Chappelle has sparked criticism and protest for his jokes aimed at transgender people, most recently in his special “The Closer.”]. I’m the only person who’s lost everything, whose life’s work was stolen, stolen by people who I thought loved me. And there was silence. There was no one in Hollywood really defending me publicly, except for Mo'nique, who is a brave, close, dear friend."
