Fans remember Julian Sands after remains found at Mt Baldy identified: 'Such a versatile actor'

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department had launched eight searches since Julian Sands vanished on January 13

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans of Julian Sands were shocked to learn that the missing 'Warlock' star was dead and that his remains were located in the San Gabriel Mountains of southern California. The family of Sands, who was well-known for his parts in Oscar-nominated movies including 1985's 'A Room With A View', reported him missing on January 13.

The 65-year-old went missing while hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains of California's Mount Baldy region, which was engulfed in snow at the time. Hikers discovered human remains on June 24 in the forest close to Mount Baldy. The bones were taken to the coroner's office for identification. Sands' body has now been positively identified. His exact cause of death is still unknown. 

According to a statement released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department on June 27, "The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results," as cited by Daily Mail. 

Sands, an experienced mountaineer, went to summit the peak that stands more than 10,000 feet tall to the east of Los Angeles, but never returned. He was reported missing in January. The area saw violent storms throughout the winter. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has launched eight searches since Sands vanished on January 13. More than 80 volunteers, employees, and deputies participated in their most recent search trip on June 17, but they came up empty-handed. The actor is survived by his journalist wife Evgenia Citkowitz, their children Imogen and Natalya Morley Sands, and Henry Sands, a son he had with his ex-wife and journalist Sarah Sands.

'RIP to the Warlock himself'

Fans of Sands are reacting to the heartbreaking news on social media. A fan tweeted, "RIP Julian! Warlock for Life!" Another fan said, "Terrible news:( RIP" A third wrote, "RIP to the Warlock himself." A shocked fan exclaimed, "NOOOOOOOOOO." Another noted, "I'm saddened by the tragic outcome, but at least his family will now have him back. He's not still missing." One fan paid tribute to Sands and said, "In honour of the passing of Julian Sands. But at least now his family knows what happened to him," wrote another.

Many remember Sands' versatile acting career with one tweeting, "You never forget your first time, watching Julian Sands in a film. He was that magnificent. For me, it was Warlock." Another noted, "Loved room with a view!!" "Was just reading his IMDB bio - such a versatile actor," mentioned another.
