'The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die' Ending Explained: Is Uhtred really dead?

The homosexuality of Aethelstan in 'The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die'

One of the revelations in 'The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die' is the revelation of the sexuality of Aethelstan. The ward of Uhtred has grown up and is consumed completely by religion. The main reason for Aethelstan's involvement in the religion is Lord Ingilmundr, whom Aethelstan admires. Aethelstan does everything Ingilmundr asks him to do blindly. The couple even makes love in the movie, which serves as a major plot point of the movie. This leads Aethelstan to go into war mode. It was later revealed that Ingilmundr manipulated Aethelstan, which led to a messy ending. While Uhtred had no problem with his ward's sexuality, it seems like the fans do.

'Everything is gay now'

Ever since Aethelstan has come out as gay in the movie, some of the fans have become furious over the fact and boycotted the movie. One fan angrily shared, "DO NOT WATCH 7 KINGS MUST DIE ON NETFLIX . ITS GAY ! Everything is gay now. I don't think there's going to be anything made that's not gay." While another fan commented, "Was watching 7 Kings Must Die, then 2 dudes kissed. I turned it off and canceled Netflix. Over it." One fan expressed, "Fools stop shoving that LGBT shit on us. Why will the king be gay…. 7 KINGs MUST DIE IS TRASH".

'Not happy!'

Another fan commented on Aethelstan's homosexuality by adding, "30 minutes in, and you had to throw gay seens in the mix. Not happy!". Another fan expressed their opinion by adding, "A show having gays obviously isn’t a issue at all. But you can’t take a beloved show with no gay storylines and then force a gay storyline into the last special of the series when it has no place. Completely forced, unnecessary, and borderline unforgivable. #SevenKingsMustDie". The person further went on to add, "Putting a Christian king into a gay love fest/making the takeover of lands about how he needs acts of faith to continue his “sin” of gay sex is just an infuriating twist that stains what could’ve been a phenomenal series wrap. Shame @TheLastKingdom #SevenKingsMustDie".
