Spoilers for ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 ‘2070: Ecocide’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: As they say, all good things must come to an end, and that includes ‘Extrapolations’ as well as the legacy of Nicholas Bolton, played by Kit Harrington. ‘Extrapolations’ has been one of Apple TV+’s newest and most unique ventures in 2023. The anthology series revolves heavily around the consequences of climate change on the planet. Although this is an anthology series, it is recommended that each episode is watched in chronological order because the season finale, ‘Extrapolations’ is an amalgamation of the previous episodes.
‘Extrapolations’ created by Scott Z Burns, has seen its highs and lows since it first began, and has been an interesting addition to Apple TV+’s 2023 lineup. Despite a stellar star-studded cast, this series got off to a rocky start. As ‘Extrapolations’ progressed, the episodes kept getting better, which meant that the expectations for the season finale were higher than ever. ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8, has done a satisfying job of putting the pieces together, and ultimately giving the planet a glimmer of hope.

The bar has been set high
The bar had been set fairly high for ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8, especially after the success of the previous episodes, which finally had the fans warming up to this anthology series. Frankly, the expectations for this episode also included the world coming to an end, but that didn’t happen, shockingly enough. Instead,
‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8, the season finale, focused mainly on Nicholas Bilton and the journey to proving him guilty of committing ecocide, which entails long-term damage to the environment.
‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8, has some major cast members, including Kit Harrington, Diane Lane, MaameYaa Boafo, and Murray Bartlett. Some of the cast members from the previous episodes also made an appearance in the season finale, including Edward Norton and Sienna Miller. Although the cast of ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 was promising, it paled in comparison to the previous episodes.
What happens to Nicholas Bilton?
Although climate change is the main villain of ‘Extrapolations’ the perpetrator is Nicholas Bilton, and he is finally being put on a stand. The trial is shorter than one would expect; four days simply don’t seem like enough time to discuss and validate all the wrongdoings that Bilton has been responsible for. The viewers know that Bilton is responsible for ecocide, but the new CEO of Alpha, Martha Russell, and Bilton’s lawyer, Ariel Turner, are hell-bent on proving otherwise.
‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 also introduces Bilton’s daughter, Decima, who plays an important role in this episode. Decima slowly but steadily realizes the reality of her father, and decides to take matters into her own hands. ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 is one of the longest episodes, and it all revolves around how Nicholas took Martha under his wing, much like he did with Chopin. The kicker is, no matter how much money, privilege, or AI one might have, at the end of the day, Bilton’s ecocide is the harsh reality, and to save Bilton, one must destroy the planet.
After the original ruling, Nicholas Bilton was proven not guilty, but that’s when his daughter stepped in, along with Martha and the opposing counsel, who made sure that there is another hearing and reconsideration. The time skip towards the end of ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8, is important for several reasons, but most importantly to give viewers much-needed closure. ‘Extrapolations’ started with Nicholas Bilton taking over the world, destroying the planet, and the series ended with him in prison.
Fans were convinced that the world would end in ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 but since that didn’t happen, could there be another season in store? There are still several issues that need to be addressed in terms of the eventual end of the world. Apple TV+ has canceled ‘Dear Edward’ after just one season, but the fate of ‘Extrapolations’ remains unknown.
You can stream ‘Extrapolations’ Episode 8 on Apple TV+ starting April 21, 2023!
