Exodus Simmons: Late rapper DMX's youngest son, 5, living with stage 3 kidney disease
Rap legend DMX's youngest son, 5-year-old Exodus Simmons, has been diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. According to the late rapper's fiancee Desiree Lindstrom, the young boy has been living with chronic renal disease since his birth or shortly afterward. In a recent podcast, Lindstrom revealed his son's day-to-day struggle as nearly half of his kidney functions has been lost at this stage. Exodus is the youngest among DMX's 15 children.
Lindstrom lost her fiance, Earl Simmons, aka DMX last year in a tragic overdose. She has been coping with the grief, while also taking care of her son single-handedly. According to the National Kidney Foundation, a chronic kidney disease (CKD) generally has five stages, of which stage 3 is critical. Eventually, it can lead to kidney failure or end-stage kidney ailment in rare cases.

Talking to Raquel Harper on her podcast, Desiree Lindstrom shared, "He still has stage 3 kidney disease. I just continue to keep his potassium down. He can’t eat no high-potassium foods."
She added, “He goes to the doctor very often. I make sure that his creatinine levels are at the levels that they need to be to keep him stable.” Such diseases happen in children under 4 years due to hereditary conditions, but Lindstrom shared that Exodus has been stable all along.
"He is an amazing child," the proud mother asserted. She also opened up about her struggle to cope with DMX's untimely death from a fatal overdose. She had been focusing on herself to bring up her child and be a great mother.
Lindstrom, who is now studying to be an aesthetician, shared, "I’m learning how to do facials, waxing, trying to build myself. I just want to build myself to be a great mother to Exodus. I want him to see that he has a strong mother, for one, that can stand up on her own. And I’m just trusting in God through the process.”
DMX proposed Lindstrom at their son's third birthday party. At the time of his death in April 2021, the couple had been together for around eight years and had been engaged for almost two. Lindstrom kept a low profile before dating DMX and, despite their long-term relationship, Lindstrom has essentially remained out of the spotlight.
In an Instagram post from February 2020, Lindstrom wrote, "Their bond and love is all I could of wanted out of my life as being a mother... thank u God for such a blessing for sending me a wonderful man that is a wonderful father to our son."
