EXO's Chen and wife welcome baby girl 4 months after private wedding and fans shower them with love
South Korean group EXO's Chen (real name Kim Jong-dae) and his wife have reportedly welcomed their first child, a healthy baby girl, and fans are showering the couple with love and congratulations.
"I'm happy for you, Jongdae!" tweeted one fan, while another said, "JUST IMAGINE BEING JONGDAE'S DAUGHTER AND HAVING EXO AS YOUR UNCLES MYGHAD THIS KID WILL BE SO FREAKIN LOVED!!! NOT TO MENTION HAVING AMAZING PARENTS???? AHHHKKKK."
Another fan stated, "Wow!!! We got a niece. I am so happy for Jongdae. Congratulations Jongdae and our sister in law / I feel so happyyyy."
EXO is a South Korean-Chinese boy band under SM Entertainment that was formed in 2011 and debuted in 2012 with the single 'Mama' when Chen was only 19.
The group originally started out with 12 members but after internal issues regarding the treatment of Chinese members by SME and the ensuing legal battles, the group whittled down to nine active members.
Chen's announcement in January 2020 that he would be marrying his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, was met with shock, but the fandom flocked to Twitter to send messages of positivity the couple's way.
Nonetheless, some anti-fans have been less than supportive, and not all shared in the joy. One fan tweeted, "Instead of happy, I feel sad and can't still believe it @weareoneexo #Chen #JONGDAE."
Another shared, "I somehow hadn't registered in my mind the fact that jongdae is really gonna become a DAD like I KNEW but I???? I need a moment I'm so emotional that's my baby all grown up help me help help help ill cry ill weep ill sob."
Some fans were quick to call out the anti-fans before they managed to spread their hate, tweeting "I hope Jongdae is doing well and antis aren't spoiling his special moment."
Fans also took to Twitter to express their disappointment that the news broke before an official statement from Chen and his wife was released. One fan stated, "But actually tho the first report was probably published without Jongdae and his wife's consent and that doesn't sit well with me."
Another tweeted, "RESPECT JONGDAE'S PRIVACY! I HOPE NO ONE INVADING IT. LET'S BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR ACTUAL CONFIRMATION FROM SM." One fan said, "Don’t be a d**khead you can be happy for jongdae and his family but respect their privacy."
And of course, many from the fandom chose to lighten the mood with humor. One fan joked, "Sehun is not EXO's baby anymore," in reference to the group's currently youngest member Sehun.
Another bemused fan tweeted, "Oh girl I got scared I saw y’all panic tweeting jongdae I thought he left or smth," in reference to unfounded rumors that Chen would be leaving the group due to his new-found responsibilities as a spouse and parent.
