LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The arrival of streaming platforms is considered to be a pivotal moment for the world of cinema. There was a time when audiences struggled to find iconic movies that were not in English, but now streamers like Netflix, MUBI, and others have made it easy for every cinephile to watch their favorite movies. In recent years, the craze of Korean movies has taken over the world in one of the most riveting ways possible and viewers are now able to see some of the finest actors from across the globe. One such actor that has managed to captivate everyone’s minds is none other than Jeon Do-Yeon. The iconic Korean actress needs no introduction and has given impeccable performances since the beginning.

Do-Yeon has been a force to be reckoned with throughout her acting career and worked in several genres. However, she is now ready to take a new path and show her versatility in the latest Netflix movie ‘Kill Boksoon’. This is the first time that the South Korean actress is playing a lead role in an action flick. So, without any guesses, the stakes are high and Do-Yeon wants to tell the world why she is considered to be a global icon. In ‘Kill Boksoon’, Do-Yeon plays an assassin who is trying to strike a perfect balance between her professional and personal life. The movie constantly sees her trying to improve as a mother and make her life worth everything, which is very similar to her life as an actress where she pushes herself to do things that she has never done before.

Do-Yeon chose a different path for 'Kill Boksoon'

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with MEA Worldwide, Do-Yeon opened up about her career and the characters she has played over the years. While talking about her choices, the 50-year-old superstar noted that a “story” or “scenario” has been really important for her to accept a role because she never wanted to tell a story that she could not relate to.

However, for ‘Kill Boksoon’, she took a different approach and challenged herself for doing something that she has never done before.

“From the very beginning of my career up until now, it was always the scenario that came first and I wanted the scenario to be something that I could relate to. It has to be a story that I want to tell the audience. But this time it was quite different because I chose to do the film without even looking at the scenario in the very beginning stages. So, the director and I would talk and we would stitch the story together. It was a very new type of challenge for me. At first, when I read the scenario, because I didn't look at the scenario when I chose to do it, I didn't know if I could pull this off well or not,” Do-Yeon told MEA Worldwide.

The upcoming Netflix movie is filled with action sequences and requires much effort. For Do-Yeon, it was all new because she has never done an action flick like this before and had to do all her stunts. Things became really hard for her on the set and suffered a “head injury” while filming the movie. The actress was taken to the hospital after the injury. But she didn’t back down and continued doing things that were never done by her in the past.

“Over the years, directors have come to me with different genres and I am very thankful to director Byun for coming to me with such a story that nobody would expect me to do. Because he chose me I wanted to show people that I could actually be a very versatile actor who could pull off unexpected genres. In the movie, there's this phrase that says something about a dull and old knife which says, ‘A dull and an old knife gives a bigger wound’. When you use a dull knife, it hurts even more and the director said it was kind of a tribute to seasoned actors like me and others. I think this was proof that people with longer experience could be versatile and really good. So, I really wanted to make sure that I pull this off really well,” Do-Yeon said during the interview.

‘Kill Boksoon’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on March 31, 2023.
