'Behind the Velvet Rope' host David Yontef says he's Team Denise Richards in Brandi Glanville drama, here's why
Reality shows are a welcome distraction during these dark, grim days. 'Vanderpump Rules' and 'Real Housewives' drama seems much easier to sink in to rather than all the dreadful news that has come our way and reality shows give us the much-needed distraction and entertainment we need. While we vicariously live through the reality stars' lives, the shows also make us feel better about ourselves after watching the mess that these women and men seem to be making of their lives.
Once we get into the rabbit hole of reality shows, there really is no end. We want all the latest updates and news of our favorite reality stars and we also want all the information on the ongoing feuds and gossip. Don't worry you don't have to spend hours trawling through the social media pages of all the stars of your favorite reality show to stay abreast with all the latest news and gossip.
Podcast hosts like David Yontef thankfully make our life a tad bit easier by sharing all the latest news, gossip and even interviewing reality stars so that we can stay updated with every latest development related to our beloved reality show.
David Yontef hosts an award-winning podcast called 'Behind the Velvet Rope' where he conducts conversational interviews with stars of some of television's most loved shows. So, it comes as no surprise that David really enjoys his pop culture and celebrity gossip. In an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), we sat down with David to get his thoughts on some of the burning questions that many die-hard fans of reality shows would love to know.
Before we began grilling David on some burning 'Real Housewives' questions, we began the interview by asking him what pulled him towards the reality television world. He says, "Growing up, I was always a Pop Culture junkie and couldn’t get enough of TV shows like '90210' and 'Melrose Place'. Shows that were 'hot', 'of the moment' and brought the drama. When that drama became 'real', and I say 'real' with air quotes because we all know Reality TV is a sliding scale of really real to kinda real but semi-scripted. I couldn’t get enough. The fact that the drama now involved real people. It was an instant upping of the stakes. The thought that what was happening on TV could actually affect someone's day-to-day life. That is serious stuff and I was immediately vested."
Since David hosts a podcast which interviews many of our favorite reality stars, we couldn't help but wonder about his experiences while interviewing these famous Bravolebrities. So, we asked him which one of the interviews is his favorite, mind you, his response may leave you surprised. He explains, "I have pretty much interviewed reality stars from almost every reality show on my podcast, 'Behind The Velvet Rope'. If you can think of a Reality Show past or present, chances are I have had at least one member of that cast on my Podcast for a little sit down chat. One of my favorites is probably Tamra Judge. Tamra is just so open and honest. What you see is what you get. I like to provide a platform for someone to tell THEIR story when they come on my Podcast. I don’t always believe everything all the Reality Stars tell me on my show, but it isn’t really my place to judge. It's their moment to shine and tell their story. I am just the conduit for getting it out there. With Tamra, everything she said was so real, so honest. Plus, she is a veteran and has so many good stories after being on The Real Housewives of the OC for 12 years. She is also really fun."
Many reality stars are also known for being extremely moody and temperamental, which makes interviewing them extremely dreadful;. So, we asked David which star's interview did he dread taking. Although he named 'Vanderpump Rules' newbie Charli Burnett, his reasoning behind it is quite interesting. He shares, "I would not say dread is the right word, but I wasn’t excited per se to interview Charli Burnett, one of the 5 newbies this past season from 'Vanderpump Rules'. She did nothing wrong, she was just a smaller part of the show and I wasn’t sure what we could possibly talk about. Boy was I wrong. She painted a 'mean girls' type picture, which was her honest experience, about not being spoken to on set by most, not all, but most of the OG cast. She went into specific details and the more she talked, the more I couldn’t believe what she was saying."
We then asked him whose side he is on between Denise Richards and Brandi Glanville's affair drama, he reveals, "Team Denise. This allegedly happened off-camera, off season when they were not filming. I understand signing up for a reality show you agree to show your whole life and everything going on in it. However, when you aren’t filming I think you have a right to think that what happens between you and your supposed friends will stay off camera, for the most part, at least."
