Evangeline Lilly slammed for dismissing coronavirus as 'respiratory flu' and refusing to self-quarantine
Evangeline Lilly on March 16 shared an Instagram post about her morning tea ritual and how it is "#businessasusual" at her household despite the growing concerns about novel coronavirus.
Even as people across the globe are paying heed to warnings coming from Italy about the importance of self-isolation and social distancing, the actor claimed that she had just dropped her kids off at gymnastics camp and she has since received backlash about the same.
She captioned her post, "Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing. #businessasusual".
The post has fans reacting to Lilly's decision to go out and take her kids out for regular activities as well.
One follower wrote, "Be careful... countries are going on lockdown.. here in Spain school and universities have been cancelled for at least two weeks. Symptoms don’t show up in kids and they’re the easiest to pass along the disease without even knowing," while another replied to this and said, "Unfortunately, she seems to not care."
It was within the comments section that she posted, "Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices."
Followers were further angered by her comment, especially after learning that her elderly father suffering from stage four leukemia was currently residing with her. Individuals who are aged 60 and above, and have compromised immune systems are considered being at high risk of contracting coronavirus.
However, Lilly commented further, "Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law [sic] for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu."
She continued, "It's unnerving…Let's be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious — keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don't abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power."
The 40-year-old actor also alluded to the pandemic somehow being orchestrated by the government when she said, "There's 'something' every election year."
