Emmys 2020: ‘Ozark’ ROBBED big time after ‘Succession’ win, fans happy ‘they managed to honor’ Julia Garner

Calling 'Succession' a good show, viewers say the Emmys 2020 trophy should have gone to either 'Better Call Saul' or 'Ozark'

Host Jimmy Kimmel started the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards from an empty Los Angeles theatre filled with cardboard cutouts of the nominees, saying: "Hello and welcome to the pand-Emmys." The star-studded show was a virtual, live event and thousands of fans tuned in to see the winners in their respective categories. The last trophy of the night for Outstanding Drama Series went to HBO's family drama 'Succession'.

The show also clinched the Best Actor, Best Writing and Best Direction in the Drama categories. However, many viewers feel the show did not deserve to win. Calling 'Succession' a good show, fans say the trophy should have gone to either 'Better Call Saul' or 'Ozark'. Several 'Ozark' fans even expressed their anger over how the Netflix show and Jason Bateman were robbed of the win.

"Ozark got absolutely robbed at the #Emmys at every single category they were nominated. But not to worry. Their viewership is far higher than any HBO show viewership at the moment. So, whatever @TelevisionAcad," one fan tweeted. Another wrote: "Succession vs Ozark was a hard choice #Emmys." Analyzing the nominees, one Twitter user posted: "Succession is a good show but shouldn't've won Best Drama Series. Better Call Saul and Ozark deserved it. The Crown and Killing Eve were good but not great. Not sure how Mandalorian or Stranger Things got nominated. Haven't seen Handmaid's Tale. #Emmys."

Nevertheless, Julia Garner — who plays Ruth Langmore in the show — was awarded the golden statuette for Outstanding Supporting Actress in Drama. "Wow, first, I’m shocked, to be honest," Garner said in her speech to accept the award. "I want to show gratitude to all the women in this category. You are the reason why I'm acting in the first place, so thank you."

Expressing dismay but congratulating Garner for her win, one fan wrote: "Couldn't concentrate at work earlier waiting for #Emmys updates. Was rooting for #Ozark and my new love @batemanjason. They should have swept all the awards (even if I haven't seen the other shows lol). But kudos to Julia Garner for her second Best Supporting Actress win!" Another said, "Tonight I got to watch Julia Garner win another Emmy Award for Ozark. The show was robbed severely but they managed to honor Garner with Best Supporting Actress. SO WELL DESERVED! #Emmys." One even went on to post: "#Ozark and #JasonBateman were robbed. #Emmys."
