Emma Watson was targeted by online trolls over her appearance at the BAFTAs on Sunday, March 13, with some saying that being a feminist had turned the actress "old."

Pictures from the weekend occasion inundated social media as fans ranked their favorite outfits, red carpet moments, and those from the awards ceremony. However, Harry Potter star Watson, 31, found herself being mocked by trolls who commented on her look in a red carpet close-up shot. This comes just days after Watson appeared to take a thinly veiled jibe at author JK Rowling over her past comments on trans women.

"I keep seeing this posted all over right-wing Twitter as proof that feminism ruined Emma Watson or something. Apparently, feminism is when bad lighting and no botox," conservative commentator Lauren Southern tweeted.

"Apparently this is Emma Watson now... She is about a decade younger than me and my pfp is less than 1 yr old... I am not making fun of her, I am just shocked that she looks so much older, I had no idea who this was when I saw it... Is this shopped?" one Twitter user wrote.

"This HAS to be photoshopped right?" another added. "Emma Watson is like 31. This looks like one of those apps to age you up!"

"When did Emma Watson turn 45 years old?" someone else commented.

"Feminism before & after," another quipped.

Female Hollywood stars have recently started speaking out against the double standards in the industry when it came to aging. Female actresses are often pushed out of the limelight once they lose their youthful looks and cast aside as "too old." On the other hand, male actors are deemed "silver foxes" as they age beyond 50. Journalist Kyle Buchanan explored this in an article he wrote for Vulture in 2013. “It seems time and time again, male movie stars are allowed to age into their forties, fifties, and even sixties while the ages of their female love interests remain firmly on one side of the big 4-0," Buchanan observed.

Nonetheless, fans of Watson rushed to defend her from the trolls attacking her appearance.

"Emma Watson must be doing something right. All the terrible people are saying you shouldn't listen to her because she's ugly and old," one tweeted.

"It’s so disturbing to me that people are comparing photos of 31-year-old Emma Watson to her as a child/teenager," a comment read.

"Every single one of you sharing and joking about this picture of Emma Watson not looking like 12-year-old Hermione anymore, are showing your disrespect for women/girls and you should all put down your phones and do something nice for your wives/mothers ASAP. Sad fucking mutants," another added.

Earlier this week, MEAWW reported how Watson appeared to attack Harry Potter author JK Rowling as she ascended the platform at the BAFTA Film Awards held on Sunday, March 13. The Harry Potter star said, "I'm here for all the witches!" after being introduced to present an award - a not-so-subtle dig at Rowling who has said that trans women are not women.
