Who is Emma Stone's partner Dave McCary? A timeline of their romance from 'SNL' days to wedding vows
Emma Stone has reportedly finally tied the knot with boyfriend Dave McCary after postponing their marriage in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic
Emma Stone has finally tied the knot with boyfriend Dave McCary, after postponing their marriage in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Stone sparked more speculation, earlier this month, that she’d secretly tied the knot with fiancé Dave McCary when the couple allegedly stepped out wearing matching gold bands.
The Oscar-winning actress and McCary, a former segment director on 'Saturday Night Live', announced their engagement on social media in December 2019. The pair were first romantically linked in October 2017, but actually met when she hosted 'Saturday Night Live' in 2016.
McCary went to the University of South California with 'SNL' star Kyle Mooney, he made his directorial debut in Hollywood with 'Brigsby Bear' in 2017. Now that he’s reportedly put a ring on it, the time has clearly come for a deeper dive into their relationship.
When they met
In December 2016, Emma Stone hosted 'Saturday Night Live' where she met McCary for the first time. In fact, he actually directed a small skit for her titled, 'Wells for Boys' which you can watch right here. Stone and McCary were later spotted together in June 2017, leaving the premiere of his film 'Brigsby Bear'. No official photos were taken, but a fan records this video where you can see just their backs.
When the breakup rumor sparked
Stone and McCary were not spotted together anywhere in 2018 entirely, but Stone was spotted at a dinner with ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield, “looking very much like a couple,” fueling some rumors of a split with McCary.
All is well
Stone said goodbye to the break-up rumors after she hosted a roller skate party and Us Weekly reported that she and Dave were all up on each other. "They stood right next to the stage in their skates for all of Haim's set, dancing together and singing along," a source said. "At one point, they slow-danced to a somewhat upbeat song. He initiated it and she excitedly followed. They held hands [with] his other hand around her waist and hers around his shoulders."
When they were spotted together 'multiple' times
In January 2019, the couple was seen getting cozy at a Golden Globes after-party at the Beverly Hilton hotel, where they hung out with Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn as well as Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig. "Emma and Dave were super touchy-feely and affectionate, which seemed to make Taylor more comfortable doing the same with Joe," a source told Us Weekly. "It seemed like a very fun and lighthearted date night." The couple even hit a red carpet together, appearing at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Later, they were spotted together enjoying their date night while watching a Los Angeles Clippers game.
Stone, who has always been private about her romantic relationships, was photographed wearing an apparent engagement ring on that finger while picking up lunch in April 2019. It could be just an accessory, as many past fake engagement ring sightings on other celebrities have proven. But it has certainly started rumors that McCary proposed to her.
When they actually got engaged
On December 4, 2019, the couple confirmed that they have finally exchanged engagement rings. The notoriously low-key couple filled the world in on their news through an emoji-captioned Instagram picture, featuring a blurry ring on Stone's hand.
After dating for more than three years, the couple was all set to tie the knot in March 2020 but plans changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but on September 23, Page Six confirmed that the couple has finally gotten married.
