Super Bowl LVI: Eminem saluted for kneeling like Colin Kaepernick and disobeying NFL
“This opportunity comes once in a lifetime,” says the lyrics of Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ and it seems the rap icon took the notes seriously as he went for the kneel in Colin Kaepernick-style during the half-time performance at Super Bowl LVI at the SoFi Stadium on Sunday, February 13. It is being reported that the NFL nixed the idea earlier and yet the ‘Rap God’ hitmaker went ahead with it.
Eminem performed ‘Lose Yourself’ with his band along with his friend and frequent collaborator Dr Dre when he took the knee in a style very similar to what Colin Kaepernick did way back in 2016. Kaepernick raised a lot of eyebrows back in the day when he kneeled during the national anthem as a protest against police brutality in the United States. Next year, Kaepernick opted out of his contract to become a free agent and eventually failed to make his way to another NFL roster. He later received a sizable settlement from the NFL. For the unversed, the latest edition of Super Bowl also saw Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J Blige taking over the stage. 50 Cent proved to be a nice surprise appearance for the evening.

According to a report by Puck, Eminem wanted to kneel “Colin Kaepernick-style” at the Super Bowl 2022 but the NFL authorities clearly were not in the mood for it. The report further said that league organizers “also flagged something that Snoop Dogg was set to wear as possibly appearing gang-related."

‘This man for the culture. He don’t give a f**k!’
The majority of the social media users praised Eminem for taking a kneel despite NFL shutting down the idea. “The NFL reportedly told @Eminem he could not kneel tonight. They seemed to have forgotten he does not give a f**k”, said one user as another shared, “I believe he was because Dr. Dre was playing a 2apac song and he was paying his respects.” One user added, “If Eminem did kneel to spite the NFL and disobey them, salute.”
The next one tweeted, “Wow Eminem holding the kneel is not an accident!!!!!!! Beautiful!” Whereas, another added, “NFL told Eminem not to kneel and he did it anyways. F**k the NFL. Props to Eminem.” One user posted, “Superbowl told Eminem he couldn’t kneel. This man for the culture. He don’t give a f**k!” Meanwhile, one person added, “So the NFL is telling Eminem that he isn’t allowed to kneel in solidarity during the show! Do they seriously think he gives a s**t what they want him not to do?” And, another concluded, “NFL expressly forbid Eminem doing the kneel ala Kaepernick. Good on him doing it anyway.”
