Elon Musk retracts support for Kanye West's 2020 presidential run, says 'we may have more differences'
It seems Elon Musk has retracted his support for Kanye West's 2020 presidential bid after his explosive Forbes interview dominated headlines.
The 49-year-old founder and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla declared his support for the 'Famous' rapper's run for the highest office in the country last week. But Musk appeared to retract his support after Kanye's bombshell interview sparked claims that he was suffering another bipolar episode. "We may have more differences of opinion than I anticipated," Musk responded to a tweet asking if he was still supportive of West.
It's worth noting that the world-famous entrepreneur was one of West's first prominent supporters, responding to the announcement by tweeting, "You have my full support!" West's fashion mogul wife Kim Kardashian also pledged her support to him shortly after he announced his presidential bid. The 39-year-old reality TV star retweeted a video of her husband explaining to the public how to register to vote.
"Hey what's up everybody, I'm here at the County Clerk's office. I wanted to show you how I just registered to vote," West began. "There's a lot of people who think they can't vote they're a convicted felon but they can actually ask for their rights back." The megastar then had a conversation with the receptionist on why other states made the voting process complicated.
The video came after West's controversial interview with Forbes, which sparked ridicule, and speculation. Some outlets claimed Kim and her family are "very concerned" about the billionaire rapper, who was apparently "in the middle of a serious bipolar episode." Kim appeared to look tense on July 9 as she filmed scenes for 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' with her friend Malika Haqq.
Kanye, in the interview, described Planned Parenthood as an organization run by "white supremacists to do the Devil's work." TMZ subsequently claimed the father-of-four was suffering from a serious bipolar episode, which happened once every year, and that it was affecting his decision-making abilities. "Kanye announced he's running for president via Twitter over the weekend, and also did a rambling interview with Forbes... which drew harsh criticism, confusion, and concern," the outlet wrote. "Our sources say his family and those close to him are worried, but they believe things will stabilize as they have in the past. The problem here, is that Kanye's proclamations are causing problems."
Another source reportedly told People that West had been doing well before this episode.
"Kanye has been doing well for a long time. In the past, he has suffered both manic and depressive episodes related to his bipolar disorder. Right now, he is struggling again," the insider said.
The source claimed Kim is "worried" as her husband's behavior is putting a lot of stress on her.
"Kim is concerned, as well as her whole family. It's super stressful for Kim, because Kanye's behavior is very unpredictable. She is worried," the insider continued. "The episodes usually last for a few weeks and then things go back to normal. Kim hopes it will be the same this time."
Kanye and Kim have been happily married since 2014 and have four kids together — North, 7, Saint, 4, Chicago, 2, and Psalm, 14 months.
