Ellen show producers call cancelation rumors 'untrue' amid low ratings and scandals about host's 'mean' behavior
The producers for Ellen DeGeneres's talk show 'The Ellen DeGeneres show' have come out and said that the rumors that her show is being canceled are 'untrue'. Recently, there have been many rumors and reports that Ellen has a very negative off-camera attitude with many people accusing her of being 'mean'. Amid these rumors, there has been some speculation about her show 'The Ellen DeGeneres show' being canceled which her producers have shut down.
Reps for the show's production company spoke to NY Post and said that 'Telepictures can confirm it's untrue'. A recent report from The Sun states that 'rumors are swirling that 'The Ellen DeGeneres' show might be canceled' because of the slump in ratings the show is witnessing of late. 62-year-old Ellen, however, has continued to broadcast her show from her home in Santa Barbara, California, amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Ellen's crew members had reportedly spoken out about how they were treated during the shutdown of the on-site production due to the coronavirus pandemic. A Variety report had stated that the crew members had very little communication regarding the status of their pay and employment.
We had earlier reported that the crew was also very angry after learning that the talk show host had hired a non-union tech company to help her broadcast daily from her home. Two insiders at Ellen's show also said that "higher-ups in production would occasionally answer phone calls but reveal little" regarding their status. At the time, a spokesperson released a statement and said, "Our executive producers and Telepictures are committed to taking care of our staff and crew and have made decisions first and foremost with them in mind."
The spokesperson said that the crew had been paid consistently but at reduced hours. The studio, however, acknowledged that its communications with the crew could have been better and blamed the confusion on the chaos surrounding the novel coronavirus and related restrictions. Ellen, who is estimated to be worth around $330 million, garnered plenty of praise when she announced that she and wife Portia de Rossi were donating $1 million towards coronavirus relief efforts but despite that reports of a coldness behind Ellen’s effervescent image are constantly doing the rounds.
Ellen had also been called for being 'mean' with Comedian Kevin T Porter asking his fans and followers to share their "most insane" stories about the talk show host as a way to raise money for charity back in March. More than 2,250 people posted in the thread. TV writer Benjamin Siemon commented on the post and said, "She has a ‘sensitive nose’ so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower."
"A new staff member was told every day she picks someone different to really hate. It's not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she'll be mean to someone else the next day. They didn't believe it but it ended up being entirely true," Siemon added. A person on social media claimed that her 'friend' who used to write for Ellen's show for two years was never ever acknowledged by her. "She told me Ellen didn't greet her once. In fact, upon employment, staff were told they weren't allowed to talk to her," the user wrote.
Another person who knew of a PA on Ellen's show who reportedly "got their first staff writer job and put in notice" but instead of being congratulated, were asked to return a Christmas present they received from the show.
