The Reinvention of Elizabeth Berkley: 'Showgirls' star, 48, makes rare red carpet appearance with husband
SAN MARINO, CALIFORNIA: The Ralph Lauren Spring 2023 Fashion Experience event on Thursday evening, October 13, brought out several A-listers of Hollywood. Fans got to see the newly married couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Mila Kunis, and more. One surprise element was the 'Showgirls' veteran Elizabeth Berkley who made a rare red carpet appearance with her husband Greg Lauren.
The 48-year-old actress looked stunning in a white plunging top that best complimented her. She wore a black jacket and slacks with black platform heels. The power couple, Berkley and Lauren, share a 10-year-old son Sky Cole Lauren. Berkley's road to stardom was kickstarted by 'Saved By The Bell', a 1989 sitcom. She and her co-star Tiffani Amber Thiessen both auditioned for one of the other roles. After Thiessen got the role of Kelly, the character of high school girl Jessie Spano was tailor-made for Berkley. But this was just a taste of what was coming. From 1989 to 1993, Berkley played Jessie Spano with all her heart. Her biggest gig was yet to come which was with Paul Verhoeven's 'Showgirls'.

With Verhoeven's direction and a script from Joe Eszterhas, the team created a classic home video after it bombed at the box office due to its NC-17 rating. Berkley's spirited performance as stripper Nomi Malone earned her the due appreciation and the movie became a cult classic. In an interview with People two years ago, Berkley took the blame for the bad number of the film. She said, "Of course it was disappointing that it didn't do well, but there was so much cruelty around it. I was bullied. And I didn't understand why I was being blamed. The job as an actor is to fulfill the vision of the director. And I did everything I was supposed to do. No one associated with the film spoke up on my behalf to protect me. I was left out in the cold and I was a pariah in the industry I had worked so hard for."
Elizabeth was recently seen in the remake of 'Saved By The Bell' by Peacock which brought back heavy nostalgia for the kids who grew up watching the show. However, the show was canceled after two seasons only in 2021. In 2019, she was seen in the documentary 'You Don't Nomi' as well. What's next for her? Berkley will next be seen in the upcoming HBO drama miniseries 'The Idol' which also features the late actress Anne Heche, along with Johnny Depp's daughter Lily-Rose Depp, Jennie Kim, The Weeknd, Dan Levy, and more.
Berkley was accompanied by her husband who is a fashion designer, actor, and artist, Greg Lauren. The duo first met in 2000 in a dance class according to In Style. The outlet reports that the duo locked eyes with each other in the studio mirror and then had dinner with their classmates the same night. They soon went on a date and the rest is history. They married each other in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in 2003 and have remained together since. At the age of 40, Berkley welcomed her son Sky Cole Lauren.
Lauren later told Us Weekly that Berkley, who played Jessie Spano, was actually his childhood crush. He said, "They either hit me or push or they don't even talk to me anymore. I got Jessie, sorry Slater!" Berkley is also an author who once wrote an advice column that led to a bestselling book, 'Ask Elizabeth: Real Answers to Everything You Secretly Wanted to Ask About Love, Friends, YourBo dy... and Life in General'.
