‘They were clearly going to get what they came for, come what may’
The 40-year-old female witness, according to The Daily Mail, shared that the thieves were determined to steal the watch. She added that she heard screaming across the street and told her teenage children to record the incident on their phones. The witness posted that the culprits will “get away with it” despite the video footage. “They were clearly going to get what they came for, come what may.”
The woman added, “You feel so helpless, but what else can you do? It was terrifying to see this happening in the street where I've lived for 14 years.” The witness further shared, “My son and daughter went down to help the couple with some water and the woman sat in my car while we waited for the police. It took them about 25 minutes to arrive.” She added, “The couple were foreign tourists and the woman said her watch was a rose gold Rolex, which is worth close to $70K.”
The witness shared that her daughter told the victim that she shouldn't have been wearing such an expensive watch on display in London to which the victim replied “had been in South Kensington”. The witness claimed that “the gang probably spotted them there and waited until they went into a quiet side street before they pounced.”
'No one should be subjected to such unacceptable violence'
Shedding light on the incident, the witness shared, “When the police arrived, they took our videos, but also said that the car would have been stolen or with cloned plates, and after the robbery, they would have probably dumped it, then gone three separate ways on the Tube or bus. Unless they're caught red-handed, it seems they get away with it.”
The Daily Mail reported that The Met has launched an investigation into the robbery. The cops arrived at the scene after 25 minutes. Condemning the incident, Chief Superintendent Owain Richards, said, “No one should be subjected to such unacceptable violence. Our dedicated Robbery Team are investigating and trawling CCTV” adding, “We have seen a rise in watch robberies, and are focusing our resources in the hotspots.' No arrests have been made in the case, so far. MEAWW will keep you posted.
