MOSCOW, IDAHO: It's been over two months since the brutal killings of four University of Idaho students, Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21. The students were stabbed to death on November 13, 2022, in their off-campus rental home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho. The main suspect Bryan Kohberger, 28, is now facing charges of four counts of murder and burglary. Recently, an internet user came forward and pointed out the 'eery similarities' between the killings in Idaho and new Peacock original horror film 'Sick' that released on the platform on January 13.
Kohberger, who has been charged with the brutal murders, was arrested on December 30, 2022 at his parents' home in eastern Pennsylvania, more than 2,500 miles from the crime scene. He is a PhD student in criminal justice and criminology at the neighboring Washington State University. The probable cause affidavit, released on January 5, revealed several key details linking Kohberger to the case, such as phone records indicating Kohberger was in the area of the murders at least 12 times prior to the grisly incident and the discovery of a knife sheath with his DNA on it, which was left at the scene. In addition, he was "seen" by one of the survivors, Dylan Mortensen. Kohberger waived his right to a speedy preliminary hearing when he appeared in court on Thursday, January 12.

A Reddit user while drawing parallels between the Idaho murders and the horror film 'Sick', wrote, "Has anyone else seen the new Sick thriller on Peacock? There were some uncanny parallels to the Moscow murders. While obviously purely coincidental given this movie premiered in September 2022 (and was released on Peacock last week), I was honestly pretty struck by some of the similarities (or at the very least likely/potential similarities), especially given how close in time this movie was filmed compared to when the murders took place."
The user elaborated on the alleged similarities such as the 'white car', 'Ka-Bar knife' and the killer wearing 'black clothing and a mask'. "Some of the similarities: The victims go to college in Utah and were asleep after a night of partying when break-in occurred, One victim drove a white Range Rover, Killer used a rambo-style Ka-Bar knife (both sheath and weapon are shown numerous times), The same victim who drove a Range Roger recently broke up with her ex-bf, “DJ,” who is in a frat. When two female victims are initially spooked, they suspect DJ and/or one of his fraternity brothers (turns out it was neither)., Victims were very active on social media and killer stalked victims using victims’ social media, particularly Instagram, The house where most of the attacks occurred was large and had a very unusual layout, One of the victims alerted another victim by saying “there’s someone in the house”, Intruder gained entry to the house because door was left open/unlocked -Killer wore all black with black mask covering nose and mouth," wrote the user.
The user further wondered if Kohberger had watched the film when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022. "I mean, not to sound crazy, but there’s no chance BK saw this movie premiere at the Toronto Int’l Film Festival in September, right?" wrote the user.
Other users who have seen the film agreed that it was 'eerily similar' to the Idaho murders. "I just saw it the other day and said the same thing, eerily similar," wrote a user. "Just watched it and it’s bizarrely similar, I even imagine he was dressed similar," added another.
Several users found the movie disturbing due to the alleged similarities. "Yep I watched it and it freaked me out thinking about how he may have looked similar to the killer with the same knife and style of kill," wrote a user. "I watched Sick the day it came out and i felt super creeped out when i saw the outfit of the killer, all black with the face mask. it was exactly how i’d been picturing BK. i’m a huge fan of slasher movies and my favorite ones tend to be ones about sorority girls (im a college aged girl myself) but since this case i’ve been feeling really weird and guilty watching those types of movies," wrote another user.
A user believed that Kohberger might have seen the movie when it premiered at the Film Festival in September and 'used it to plan' the murders. "I mean, maybe Bryan saw that movie when it came out in September and used it as his plan. I feel like the chances of all these similarities being just a coincidence are very low," wrote the user.
