Eddie Murphy to be honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at 25th Annual Critics' Choice Awards
One of the most successful African-American actors, Eddie Murphy will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
The Critics Choice Association (CCA) announced in a statement on December 30 that Murphy will be feted for his extraordinary roles over the years and most recently for his brilliant portrayal of the legendary Rudy Ray Moore in Netflix’s 'Dolemite Is My Name' for which he has also been nominated for Best Actor.
Murphy is also an award-winning comedian and is one of the industry’s top-five box-office performers. Known for his stint on 'Saturday Night Live' from 1980 to 1984, he earned the tenth rank on Comedy Central's list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.
What's more, in 2007, he also clinched the Golden Globe and his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of soul singer James 'Thunder' Early in 'Dreamgirls'.
From 'Beverly Hills Cop' (1984) to 'Daddy Day Care' (2003) and the 'Shrek' series, the 58-year-old actor has starred in multiple $100 million pictures over the past three decades. Some of his most notable works include '48 Hours', 'Trading Places', 'Coming to America', 'Harlem Nights', 'Bowfinger', 'The Nutty Professor' and 'Imagine That'.
Apart from his role on Netflix's biographical comedy 'Dolemite Is My Name', the actor also wrapped production on 'Coming 2 America', the long-anticipated sequel to the 1988 box office hit. With his win at the Critics’ Choice Awards, he may also be a winner at the Academy Awards as it is considered to be the most accurate predictor of the nominations.
At the ceremony, Kristen Bell will receive the fourth annual #SeeHer Award.
Set to be hosted by Taye Diggs, the star-studded event will broadcast live on The CW Television Network on Sunday, January 12, from 7 pm to 10 pm ET.
