'I've never seen him cry on stage'
The trailer opens with Ed discussing his childhood and stuttering while claiming, "That man doesn't grow up to be a pop sensation. It seems so implausible." Ed's early videos are intercut with scenes from his sold-out arena tours as a performer.
Viewers will witness him progress from the start of his career to his emergence as one of music's top talents. Ed talks about how he first met Jamal Edwards, the man who gave him his big break, and their friendship before Jamal's untimely passing last year.
Jamal Edwards, a music producer and the son of Brenda Edwards from 'Loose Women,' tragically passed away in February 2022 at the age of 31 after suffering a heart arrest brought on by cocaine and alcohol.
The docuseries also included footage of Ed's wife Cherry Seaborn while she was expecting their two children, Lyra, 2, and Jupiter, 10 months. Ed remarks: "Everything in my life sort of became so much better when Cherry came into it" as the two are pictured out on dates together. The show also explores Cherry's medical problems and how the illness took a toll on their relationship.
'Blue was Jamal’s colour, but now is all I feel'
Cherry's health problems came right after his friend's death. Ed is seen breaking down in tears in the automobile as he relates what he went through. Cherry remarks, "I've never seen him cry on stage", while a clip of him crying is shown. "He hasn't had the time to process and and be at peace with his thoughts," she continues.
With the words "life may be unpredictable", the teaser finishes with happier clips of Ed enjoying his birthday, performing on stage, and laughing with his friends. It happens after Ed disclosed that his late friend Jamal is honored in the first single from his next album, Minus.
The lead song from Ed's next album 'Subtract', titled 'Eyes Closed,' will be available on March 24. Ed just revealed the release of his sixth studio album and stated that it was fueled by his own traumas. The ‘Shape of You’ singer stated the song was inspired by the passing of a close friend in a heart-touching post to his 42M Instagram followers on March 20. He also said he was "dancing with my eyes closed" to attempt to get through it.
