Ed Sheeran has revealed that he will be going into semi-retirement at the age of 28 after making a massive fortune from his successful music career.

The singer shared with fans at the last gig of his Divide tour that he will be taking a break from the spotlight in order to spend some time with his wife Cherry Seaborn. While on stage at Chantry Park in Ipswich on Monday night, the 'Shape of You' singer told the crowd that he needed to make an announcement.

"As you may or not know, I've been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing. There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months," he shared.

Sheeran, who wed childhood sweetheart Cherry in a private ceremony in 2018, recently shared that they were planning to start a family. In June, he had shared, "I'm starting a life with Cherry. I can't spend the next 20 years on the road. Kids would be the different thing. I wouldn't mind sacrificing for them. I've already achieved more than I thought I would, so now I'm just trying to have fun."

The singer seems to have been following on that pledge when he said he had played all around the world in places such as America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America before adding that "it's been a wild one."

He shared that as a result of the tour, he had performed for a total of almost 9 million people around the world.

"It is the biggest tour ever. It's been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you're breaking up with a girlfriend that you've been with for years," Sheeran revealed.

He also shared that Monday's concert could possibly be his last ever 'loop pedal tour gig' as when he gets back to the stage, he will have a band behind him.

An emotional Sheeran then changed out of his Ipswich Town football shirt and put on another one which symbolized his home town.

"This is a Framlingham Town football shirt. I am from Framlingham. Suffolk is my home. I am so happy to be ending this mammoth tour here." He then went on to thank everyone on the tour and everyone who had given him a chance.
