'DWTS' Season 32: Internet claims Mira Sorvino brought daughter Mattea Backus as 'distraction' from 'weird lift'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Dancing With The Stars' Season 32 star Mira Sorvino kicked off the Most Memorable Year Night with her partner Gleb Savchenko. However, she was also joined by her daughter Mattea Angel Backus for the special night.
Mira paid tribute to her most memorable year, 2004, with her performance. The year was quite special because she gave birth to her daughter Mattea.
Mira and Mattea performed on the song 'Time After Time' because regardless of where Mattea goes, her mother Mira is always waiting for her, time after time. Although Mattea joined Mira on stage, the judges were not judging her performance.
However, 'DWTS' Season 32 viewers dubbed Mira's daughter a "distraction" and accused that she used her daughter for the special performance. A Reddit user wrote, "I feel like they needed her daughter to come out and distract them during that lift."
Another person said, "I'm sorry but mira's contemporary was not good at all and her daughter being in it made it very hard to understand the routine. also her daughter's poor technique was very distracting from the actual dance."
Another viewer added, "I thought it was a nice dance, but maybe the trio aspect was a bit too much. They definitely brought Mattea in as a distraction during the weird lift. But it was very nice. Nice that Mira can have that moment with her daughter."
Another critic penned, "Exactly. It was distracting since she was dancing better lol." Another X user tweeted, "Mira’s daughter dancing with her was so 🥹 but I will say her coming back in at the end was distracting and I feel like it took away from Mira."

Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko recreate iconic 'Time After Time' dance from 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion'
Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko recreated the iconic dance scene from 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' for the Most Memorable Year Night. The contemporary routine was set to Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time', a homage to the trio she performed with costars Lisa Kudrow and Alan Cumming in the 1997 cult-classic comedy.
During the rehearsals, Mira said, "I am so excited because, this week, I get to live out another dream which is to dance with my daughter," in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight.
She continued, "Gleb choreographed this incredible dance to 'Time After Time' about the love between parents and a daughter and, you know, her going away and coming back but love always returns, and we always end up together in the end."
The Romy and Michele-inspired dance was not only a celebration of her daughter, but also of her most memorable year, 2004. Mira revealed to the outlet, "That's the year I got married to my husband, Christopher Backus, and that's the year we had our first child, Mattea," adding that her "life changed forever for the better."
Mira Sorvino hopes to improve her performance
Mira Sorvino and Gleb Savchenko received 7 from all three 'DWTS' judges for their performance in Week 4. However, they upgraded their choreography and stunned the judges in Week 5.
Derek Hough praised Mira and complimented her chaine and pique turns. Bruno Tonioli noted that Mira needs to work on her backends.
Mira and Gleb scored 22 out of 30. This marks the highest score of Mira and Gleb in the competition.
