WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is all set to face Bill Goldberg at one of the most anticipated events of the year - WWE Royal Rumble 2021 on January 31, 2021. McIntyre, who himself was a huge fan of Goldberg growing up, has revealed that it is surreal for him to face the legend in real-life. It must be mentioned here that McIntyre was the winner of the 2020 Royal Rumble and then earned the WWE title in WrestleMania. Presently, ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ is enjoying his best form ever in wrestling.

Thirty men and 30 women compete each year in the traditional Royal Rumble matches with the prize of challenging for a world title on the grandest stage of them all on the line. Goldberg laid down the challenge to McIntyre for a match at the Rumble on Legends Night, storming the ring and declaring that McIntyre had no respect for the legendary wrestlers in attendance. McIntyre accepted the challenge but has been unable to hype the match due to a positive  Covid-19 diagnosis.

So this year, will McIntyre pull a repeat of his success from last year? The match results will tell us that, but before that happens, let's take a look at the neat fortune the wrestler has accumulated over the years.

What is Drew McIntyre's net worth?

In 2021, McIntyre has been found to have a net worth of $1.5 million. He reportedly fetches a salary of $550,000 every year. He is among the highest-paid male wrestlers in the domain. Most of McIntyre’s fortune has come from his career in wrestling. He stays in a beautiful house in Tampa, Florida, with his wife Kaitlyn Frohnapfel. McIntyre is also known to be a kind and charitable person in real life, unlike his ‘bad boy’ persona inside the ring.

Drew McIntyre’s struggles and rise to success

McIntyre, whose real name is Andrew McLean Galloway IV, picked up an interest in wrestling in his teenage years. He started training at the age of 15 and moved to England with his family to train at Frontier Wrestling Alliance. In 2003, McIntyre debuted in professional wrestling at the British Championship Wrestling in Glasgow. After winning several independent titles across Europe, WWE happened for him in 2007. He appeared on a few episodes of SmackDown in 2007 and 2009. There he was conferred ‘The Chosen One’ title by none other than Vince McMahon.

After winning the Intercontinental Title from John Morrison, McIntyre was sent to NXT following an injury. He worked hard and made his mark at other promotions to become the top contender. He then returned to WWE and has been in his best form ever since.

What is the prize at the Royal Rumble?

The 2021 Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View will take place with 30 top wrestlers in both men and women sections. This is the 34th event in the Royal Rumble chronology that was started in 1988. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, an audience won’t be present at the venue, but the event will feature a virtual live crowd of fans, thanks to WWE’s ThunderDome viewing experience.

The winner at the Royal Rumble traditionally gets the chance to challenge for a world title on the grandest stage. The winner of the Royal Rumble match is traditionally awarded a title match for WWE's top championship at WrestleMania.
