Honey Boo Boo's boyfriend Dralin Carswell was detained and charged with statutory rape in 2019
Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson's boyfriend Dralin Carswell, 21, was allegedly arrested and accused of statutory rape in 2019 before his relationship with the reality star, 16. As per police and court documents obtained by The Sun, Carswell was detained on May 29, 2019, and was first charged with statutory rape.
The alleged victim was not Honey Boo Boo, and the event appears to have happened before Carswell began dating her, according to the tabloid. According to the The Sun, a police complaint stated that the victim was brought to the police station by her mother, who said Carswell, then 18, climbed through her daughter's window and had intercourse with the minor, then 15. In the report, the officer stated that they interrogated the minor. "I asked the daughter if it was consensual, and she stated 'Yes.'"

According to The Sun, the juvenile also told the officer that "her plan with Carswell was for him to come to the house and while there they had consensual unprotected sex in her bedroom." Carswell reportedly told police that the minor "was his girlfriend, and they had talked about him coming to her house... but he did not actually go to the house."
Carswell further told authorities that he had spent the entire day and night at his friend's residence. When Carswell's friends were questioned by police, two of them told detectives they dropped him off at the 15-year-house old's and picked him up an hour later, according to The Sun.
The friends allegedly told police that when they returned to pick him up, Carswell "was scared and told them to drive fast" as the minor's "mama had caught him inside the house." Carswell was initially charged with statutory rape but "ultimately completed a pretrial diversion program that resulted in the dismissal of a claim for making a false statement to law enforcement." Carswell agreed to complete the terms of the program in return for a discharge during a pretrial diversion hearing in June 2021.
During the hearing, the assistant district attorney stated that Carswell "was charged with statutory rape, misdemeanor grade," but "based on the evidence we didn't feel like we could prove the statutory rape but could prove making a false statement."
The assistant district attorney added, "This is the first time Mr Carswell has been in trouble. He is here today before the court representing himself. So the recommendation was a pretrial diversion in that situation. I've spoken to the mother of the 15-year-old, and she's in agreement with the recommendation, which is Mr Carswell successfully complete this pretrial status, and then his case will be dismissed."
"The conditions are $100 administrative cost. He's to consume no alcohol, controlled substances, or intoxicants not prescribed by a physician. He's to complete a certified addiction evaluation and complete any recommendations. Submit to drug and alcohol screens at his expense. Perform 20 hours of community service. He's to have no contact with [the minor] and he's to attend and complete the moral recognition class program through JAG probation," he added.
Carswell met all the requirements and the lawsuit against him was dropped on December 13, 2021, according to The Sun.

Honey Boo and Carswell have been dating for nearly a year and despite their age gap, her family approves of him. While many people have been outraged by the couple's four-year age difference, the couple lives in Georgia, where the legal age of consent is 16. The Sun reported in September 2021 that she was "attached at the hip" with Carswell. Carswell reportedly attended a Nashville technical school prior to the Covid outbreak but currently resides in Georgia nearby Alana and her sister Lauryn 'Pumpkin' Shannon.
While he was "quiet at first" in the presence of her loved ones, a source informed the publication that Carswell is now "like one of the family" and "as fun and crazy as the rest of them." "Dralin and Alana hang together all the time," an insider said of the couple, who became Facebook official in March 2021. Honey Boo Boo's car-obsessed beau has generously allowed her to use his Chevrolet Camaro, which he refers to as "his baby," while she saves up for her first automobile.
