Dolly Parton's journey began in the humble town of Sevierville, Tennessee, in 1946. From a young age, it was clear that Dolly possessed a unique talent and an unwavering determination to make it in the music business. Her incredible voice and songwriting skills soon attracted the attention of local audiences, setting the stage for her future stardom.

The '60s era: A rising star in Nashville

In the 1960s, Dolly made the life-changing move to Nashville, the epicenter of country music. It didn't take long for her to make her mark. With hit songs like 'Jolene' and 'Coat of Many Colors', Dolly established herself as a talented singer and songwriter. Her distinctive look, complete with big, blonde hair and flashy outfits, also began to take shape, becoming an essential part of her persona.

The 1970s marked a turning point in Dolly's career. Her partnership with Porter Wagoner and their hit television show 'The Porter Wagoner Show' and concert tours brought her even more fame. She also wore the iconic Playboy bunny outfit and ears, on the cover of the magazine's October 1978 issue. She became the first country singer to pose for the magazine. She later recreated the daring look in an Instagram post for her husband's birthday on July 20, 2021.

In the '80s: Acting and beyond

Dolly's talents weren't limited to music. In the 1980s, she made a successful transition to acting, starring in films like '9 to 5' and 'Steel Magnolias'. Her on-screen presence showcased her versatility and endeared her to an even bigger audience.

In the '90s: Dolly Parton embraces a more 'refined' style

Dolly Parton loved her 'Tonight Show with Johnny Carson' appearance. She was seen with looser hair waves and an elegant dress silhouette and this style continued to evolve into the '90s. In 2020, she told Allure, "I felt like, during that time, I was probably the most fashionable that I had ever been as far as little more classy with the hair, little more classy with the clothes, and really trying to be a little more refined."

2001: Dolly Parton achieves 'Hall of Fame' status

In 2001, Dolly reached a significant milestone in her career by being honored with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

2008: Dolly Parton on the 'Backwoods Barbie' cover

The singing sensation channeled a Barbie doll for her 2008 'Backwoods Barbie' album cover photo. She wore a bright-pink coat and posed on haystacks for the album cover and her hair up in a messy high ponytail of sorts.  The belted coat and leopard-print dress was designed by Steve Summers. Parton wore animal prints on several other occasions, however, her stylists were careful to never overdo it while designing her clothes.  

2015: Dolly Parton's iconic white jumpsuit

Dolly graced the stage at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in a dazzling white jumpsuit for her performance. Parton's boundless energy and irrepressible humor shone through all the while as she strummed a variety of bedazzled musical instruments, coordinated to match her impeccable white, sparkly jumpsuit.

2019 CMA Awards: Dolly Parton stuns fringed white dress

Dolly showcased her status as one of Hollywood's most prominent stars when she took the stage at the 2019 CMA Awards in November of that year. In addition to co-hosting the 53rd annual awards show alongside Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire, the Grammy-winning artist delivered a remarkable performance, featuring a medley of religious songs such as 'God Only Knows' with for KING & COUNTRY, 'There Was Jesus' with Zach Williams, and more!

2023: Dolly Parton's rocker chick vibe

Parton’s iconic style was on full display while hosting the 2023 ACM Awards. She switched up her look throughout the show. From the fringed silver jumpsuit that she wore for the event's red carpet to the floral-printed frock and glitzy heels, she truly stole the show. Most recently in June, the 'Jolene' country singer wore knee-high, strappy silver boots and a bedazzled fringed-skirt while attending a press conference for her album 'Rockstar' in London, England. She looked quite edgy in the pink and silver outfit as she promoted her album releasing in November 2023.
