Does Matthew Perry have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame? Only two actors in 'Friends' cast share this honor
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Matthew Perry, widely known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing in the beloved sitcom 'Friends,' might receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The possibility of this honor arises as the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, responsible for the famous Walk of Fame, has expressed its willingness to pay tribute to the late actor. Perry tragically died at the age of 54 by apparent drowning at his Pacific Palisades home on Saturday, October 28.
Why was Matthew Perry's Walk of Fame Star delayed?
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce revealed that Perry had been previously selected for a Walk of Fame star in 2013, thanks to his PR firm's nomination. Unfortunately, a formal ceremony was never scheduled, and by 2018, the award had lapsed.
Among the ensemble cast of 'Friends', only two other members have received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Jennifer Aniston, who portrayed Rachel Green in the hit show, was honored in 2012. Courteney Cox, famous for her role as Monica Geller, Chandler's wife, received her star earlier this year.
Will Matthew Perry's Walk of Fame Star be placed next to his former co-stars?
It remains to be seen if Perry's star will be placed in close proximity to his former co-stars. However, the decision rests with Perry's family, who will determine if and when the star ceremony takes place, as per TMZ.
In the event that Perry's family decides to pursue a Walk of Fame star in his memory, a family member would need to accept the honor on his behalf. They would also be responsible for inviting between 60 and 90 guests to the potential ceremony.
Notably, there is a $75,000 sponsorship fee, which covers the cost of the star and the ceremony. The funds can be contributed by a studio, family member, or friends, provided that Perry's family approves of the tribute.
Remarkably, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has expressed its desire to place Perry's potential star in the same area as his 'Friends' co-stars, Courteney and Jennifer, on the iconic Hollywood Blvd and Vine Street, one of Los Angeles' most prominent intersections.
