'Dodgeball Thunderdome': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about David Dobrik's new show on Discovery
The ultimate gymnasium sport that has found its way into national television. Nothing more like it. But, the difference is, one doesn't have to be a jock to excel in it. Anyone can win on 'Dodgeball Thunderdome', at least that's what Discovery will have us believe. The channel says: "Discovery takes on Dodgeball in a way only Discovery can where the game becomes an epic sporting adventure in all-new arena where everyday people become heroes." Here's all you need to know about the show
Release date
The competition series premieres on Discovery Channel on August 19, 9 pm.
Plot
On the show, the participants have a chance to compete in tasks where strength is not the only key to success. Reaching the finish line can also be determined by employing strategies and quick thinking. Nine-episodes-long, the show will end with a finale that will be all about a tournament of champions starring winners from all of the previous episodes. They will be competing for a $25,000 cash prize on an "isolated, 13.8-acre, specially constructed site," The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
Cast
YouTube star David Dobrik will be hosting the series. He is known for making viral content and enjoys over 60 million followers across his social media platforms. He has also been named as 'Gen Z’s Jimmy Fallon' by Wall Street Journal.
"I'm super excited to be working with Discovery on Dodgeball Thunderdome," he said in a press statement and added: "Dodgeball was always everyone's favorite game in gym class, and hosting this show brings back many sweaty memories of dominating in Vernon Hills." Erin Lim and Andrew "Hawk" Hawkins will be co-hosting it.
Trailer
In the sneak peek shared on the channel's website, David explains the tough and challenging obstacle course (which includes a spring-loaded balance beam that lays over a pool of mud) that the participants will have to tackle to survive the show. It's a self-shot video and sort of an explainer more than a glimpse into what can be expected from the show.
Showrunners
The series is produced by Lionsgate's Pilgrim Media Group. And, serving as executive producers are Craig Piligian and Mike Nichols with co-executive producers Leigh Purinton, Kenny Shackelford, Nicholas Caprio, and Ted Kamp.
