Internet picks a side after man reveals why he can't share a bed with his gynecologist wife
A Reddit user recently posted on the AITA forum why he finds it difficult to share a bed with his wife. The man, 33, who goes by the user id u/abovetherestaurant, said he is forced to sleep on the couch because he feels uncomfortable sleeping in the same place with her without her showering first.
Although showering is a personal choice, when it comes to sleeping right next to someone, one must be highly concerned about hygiene. The user's situation appeared worse as he mentions that his wife, 32, is a gynecologist and works at a hospital, which means she gets exposed to a lot of bodily fluids during work.

'I'm uncomfortable'
The man began his post by saying, "My (33M) wife (32F) is a gynecologist and works at a hospital. She recently mentioned that she is exposed to a lot of bodily fluids during her workday. While I'm proud of her for doing such an important job, I'm uncomfortable with the idea of sleeping in the same bed as her without her showering first."
He then said that his wife thinks he is being unreasonable by asking her to take a shower before coming to bed. The man continued, "However, I still feel uneasy about the potential exposure to bodily fluids, and I don't think it's an unreasonable request for her to take a quick shower before bed. Since my wife doesn't want to shower before bed, I have been sleeping on the couch in the living room instead."
'My wife thinks I'm overreacting'
The user concluded his post by saying, "My wife thinks I'm overreacting and being ridiculous by sleeping on the couch, but I don't want to compromise my comfort and health. Am I the asshole for choosing to sleep on the couch when my wife comes home from work without showering?"
Other Reddit users also shared their opinions on the matter. One user commented, "Yup, I'm a nurse myself, and I shower the minute I get home. The amount of poop, pee, blood, pus and saliva I'm covered in from day to day needs to be OFF, even though I know I have taken all the necessary precautions. Plus, nursing is a super sweaty job, and I need that off me as well." Another wrote, "NTA, have multiple physicians in the family and they all shower at work before even leaving the hospital after rounds since they don't want their cars getting dirty." One questioned, "When you did sleep in the same bed with your wife, did you get sick more often? Do you sleep on the sofa when either one of you are coughing or sneezing more than usual? Have you noticed a difference in your health since sleeping on the sofa? How did you two handle her working so n a hospital during COVID?"
"Your wife works in a hospital and trust me those places are filthy," someone else noted. "I have worked as a nurse in the hospital setting and I would immediately get out of scrubs and have a shower when I got home, but if I also knew I had body fluids on me? Yes I would shower. NTA." "Everyone disagreeing is ridiculous. Hospitals are unsanitary no matter how much you clean. Also their was a post about some dude who worked in construction doing they same thing to is wife and the results were NTA. The bias on this sub is ridiculous. Even if my partner worked at a gas station I’d except to be clean before you get into bed," commented another user.
