Who is Mikhail Varshavski? 'Sexiest doctor alive' slammed for partying 'maskless' with bikini-clad women
Dr Mikhail Varshavski, popularly known as "Doctor Mike", seems to have landed in trouble. An exclusive report by Daily Mail alleges that the doctor, who fans refer to as "Hot Doctor", was partying maskless on his birthday. The report states that some photos of him surfaced on the Internet, and the individual allegedly appeared to be Doctor Mike on those pictures.
The Daily Mail report further states, Varshavski flew from New York to Miami on November 12 to celebrate his 31st birthday. An alleged photo of Mike without mask, surrounded by others — including bikini-clad women — on a boat in Sunset Harbor, started doing the rounds which his fans disappointed. People started discussing the issue on Reddit.
One user said, “I hope he addresses this and it somehow isn’t true. Super disappointed!” A user wondered, “It’s probably another year, that would really stupid, like posing for photo.” One alleged, “Came to this sub looking for this. I saw this while scrolling through Google News and I'm just super upset. I really liked and respected Dr. Mike, but if this is true, this is so hypocritical and awful, and I definitely can't trust anything he has to say. I haven't hung out with a group of friends since March. I've followed all of his advice. Why isn't he?” Another said, “I saw the pictures on google news. I am very disappointed.”
Who is Dr Mikhail Varshavski?
According to a 2016 Fox10 Phoenix report, Varshavski was named People magazine's "sexiest doctor alive". At the age of six, he moved from Russia. Varshavski's father, who was a doctor as well, inspired him to pursue medicine. Varshavski began documenting his experience of pursuing medicine on his Instagram account, and had a following of about 100,000 people. But once he got the call from People magazine, he became an instant celebrity. The report also states dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel, auctioned off a date with Mike, and in two weeks, raised close to $100,000.
As per a 2015 Bustle report, Varshavski's aim is to use his social media pages to promote health awareness, to encourage people to give back, and to reach out to anyone who might have any questions about pursuing medicine as a career. He told Bustle at that time, "Usually, there's that stigma that you have to give up your life to study medicine. I've kind of battled that stigma my whole life, showing that you can be a normal person, have a social life — you know, enjoy your hobbies while still becoming a doctor.” The story also says that he was quite surprised by the sudden fame. He said, “Honestly, it was me just having an Instagram just like everybody else, posting things I was doing, putting up pictures of my dog. I think that's the secret — they really follow me for my dog, not me.”
As of 2020, Varshavski has been posting videos on coronavirus awareness, among other videos as well on his YouTube channel. According to Men’s Health report in March 2020, he bought $50,000 worth of N95 masks for the hospital where he works, because they were experiencing shortage.
