Everyone loves differently and everyone is comforted differently too. In 'Do you like Brahms?' Episode 3, Joon-young (Kim Min-jae) and Song-ah (Park Eun-bin) learn that their love for another person might break their heart, not once but many times but the decision to continue this one-sided expression of their feelings is something that they are not ready to stop. At least not as of yet. The episode also centers on the theme of being comforted by music as it shows us how Joon-young, while he was young was able to comfort Jung-kyung (Park Ji-Hyun) through his music - especially 'Traumeirei'. In the present, we see Song-ah hope that people do get comforted by music because as musicians, that's all she and her group of friends can hope for.

However, when she tries to pinpoint a moment when she was comforted by music, she is unable to recall any. She realizes that all that she had experienced after she began playing the violin was like heartbreak since she faced multiple rejections from college. Every time she was rejected, she felt as if the love that she had had for playing the violin was more like the one-sided love of a teenager.

Joon-young, on the other hand, reveals how there was never a time when he had been comforted by music. All he can think about is how he had felt when he was forced to take part in competitions to help his home financially. The silence, the loneliness and the anxiety that he experienced - all in rooms that were lonelier than the ones before - is all that he can remember. The comfort that he was able to give Jung-kyung by playing her mother's favorite piece of music, is great but can he really comprehend the weight of what he was able to do for her? From the looks of it, it doesn't seem so.

In fact, in the present, when Joon-young learns about Song-ah's feelings for Dong-yoon and tries to guard her from the truth about Min-seong (Bae Da-Bin) sleeping with Dong-yoon despite having broken up with him, it backfires. Later, Min-seong herself ends up confessing to Song-ah that she slept with her ex-boyfriend after a round of drinks and she makes this confession on Song-ah's birthday. It is kind of ironic how Min-seong wants Song-ah to swear at Dong-yoon for being a bad guy who is inconsiderate and ignorant about others' feelings, while she is doing the same to Song-ah and that too on her birthday.

What is worse, is that Song-ah realizes that someone she aspired to be knows of her embarrassing tale of love. She sees Joon-young watching her and her friend outside the office of the foundation that the two of them work at and it is at that moment that she realized how he had helped her previously. However, Song-ah meets him later and tells him that she would prefer to be heartbroken than to feel like a fool. As she says this, she looks desolate and it is this expression that has Joon-young reach out to music to comfort her.

For someone who doesn't play Brahms, he plays her favorite Sonata composed by Brahms for her and that brings Song-ah to tears and at that moment, she realizes that music does comfort people and that day, Joon-young had comforted her with his music. As the two of them slowly bring the walls down around each other, they also learn the magic of feelings being reciprocated. Will their friendship progress further and become more than that?

'Do you like Brahms?' airs on SBS on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10 pm KST and can be streamed on Viki Global.
