Whoopi Goldberg: Disney 'hypocrisy' slammed after Gina Carano was FIRED but comedian suspended
Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from 'The View' for a period of two weeks after she came under fire for saying the Holocaust was “not about race". ABC News public relations recently released a statement on Goldberg's suspension. Goldberg's comments reportedly reached decision makers at Disney.
“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” reads a statement attributed to Kim Godwin, president at ABC News. “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Goldberg's Holocaust comments
During a discussion on a Tennessee school banning the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel 'Maus', which is about a Holocaust survivor, Goldberg said the genocide was not simply race-based. “The Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race,” Goldberg, 66, said repeatedly. “It’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”
Quickly disagreeing, political strategist Ana Navarro said, "Well, it’s about white supremacy. That’s what it’s about. It’s about going after Jews and Gypsies.” “But these are two groups of white people,” insisted Goldberg. “You’re missing the point. The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white because black, white, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other.”
Goldberg continued, "If you hear about ‘Maus,’ should you be worried? Should your child say, ‘Oh my God, I wonder if that’s me’? No. That’s not what they’re going to say. They’re going to say, ‘I don’t want to be like that.’” During the brief discussion, Joy Behar noted that the Nazis indeed considered Jewish people to be 'a different race'.
Goldberg's apology
Following the backlash, Goldberg took to Twitter to express her "sincerest apologies". In an image post, Goldberg wrote, "On today’s show, I said the Holocaust ‘is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people — who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected. The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused. Written with my sincerest apologies, Whoopi Goldberg”.
'Rules for thee and not for me'
Social media users have now raised questions on why actress Gina Carano was fired from the hit drama series 'The Mandalorian' over inflammatory social media posts last year, while Goldberg was only suspended. Carano was fired by Disney after she made a comment that compared conservatives being silenced today to Jews being targeted during the Holocaust. Her tweet, which was later deleted, read, “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews."
Social media users took to Twitter to slam Disney's decision. "Crazy how @ginacarano got fired for saying how conservatives were being treated like jews, but Whoopi is probably suspended with pay with what she said...," one user wrote on the social media platform. "Crazy how Disney fired @ginacarano just for a comparison, but suspend Whoopi for making a straight misinformed comment," another user wrote.

Disney owns Mandalorian.
Disney owns ABC, which shows The View.
Gotta love the narrative changes

"So @WhoopiGoldberg rips a rant with a controversial take about the #holocaust and gets two weeks off, but @ginacarano makes a reference to current and past political situations and she got fired. #seemsfair #byebyewhoopi," one user commented, while another said, "@WhoopiGoldberg highlighting how @ABCNetwork and @Disney hate conservatives. There is no way in hell @ginacarano comments could be considered worse or more offensive than Whoopie's comments. Rules for thee and not for me, seems to be the trend with ABC." "Cause @WhoopiGoldberg is a liberal, and @ginacarano is a conservative, Whoopi gets preferential treatment," one user wrote.
