Did Stonehenge house bag a spot in 'Zillow Gone Wild' semi-finals? HGTV host Jack visits wildest family abode
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA: 'Zillow Gone Wild' Episode 2 featured three new wildest properties competing to be named the 'wackiest' home of the season. HGTV show host Jack McBrayer visited a family Stonehenge house in South Lake Tahoe, owned by Mischel Twining.
However, the Stonehenge house notably had enough features to bag the second spot in the semi-final list. Missile Silo has also been in the semi-finale. Jack shared that the mountain lodge has a natural building approach that anyone from Boston to Bedrock would love.
The property had a dramatic entryway that looked like a cave. The rocks were sealed with concrete to protect the home from the elements. Jack appreciated using the rock, which was initially a problem, creatively and explained how the property fitted in all three criteria, "Creativity, Commitment, and Wackadoo". He said, "That is a bold and creative way to build naturally."
The HGTV host gave the full rating to the property for its commitment and explained, "Using stone as a part of the structure shows a commitment to the natural theme." He added, "The mythological bedroom complete with Greek columns and mural, is unique and wackadoo!"
Mischel Twining's father built the Stonehenge house
'Zillow Gone Wild' star Mischel Twining's father, Wilbur Edward Twining, and her mother, Rosmarie, were the owners of the place. Mischel's parents got married in 1964 and purchased the land in 1967. The boulders around the property were their major obstacle as they planned to build their dream house.
Mischel explained in the episode that her parents were sitting on the top of the rock, which was still on the entryway, and looked out over their lot and trying to figure out where they were going to situate their house amongst all these boulders that were in the lot." Mischel added, "And my father was like, 'You know, why don't we just build around it?'"
She further noted that her father designed the house and built it together when she was just 5 years old.
Why does Mischel Twining want to sell the Stonehenge house?
HGTV show star Mischel Twining's family Stonehenge house is still up on the market for sale for $2.29 million awaiting its next owner. The 3,311 sq ft property featured five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Although the place was close to her family, Mischel wanted to sell the house. She shared, "We have all decided that it's time and we're really looking forward to, you know, the next chapter of the home."
The house featured a very unique bedroom inspired by Greek Mythology. Mischel explained about her bedroom, "This is a fresco that was in the palace of Knossos on the island of Crete."
