Rapper Chase Amick from Atlanta, Georgia, who was more famous as 6 Dogs, reportedly died on Tuesday, January 26. He was only 21. The musician, who was best known for the songs ‘Faygo Dreams’, ‘Guccy Armor’, ‘Someone’, and ‘Flossing’, battled COVID-19 in 2020.

Many came to pay tributes to the young artist, including fellow rapper Matthew Raymond Hauri, better known as Yung Gravy. He said that Amick had “inspired me in so many ways and helped me grow as an artist and a person”. Another Atlanta-based rapper Lil Gnar said, “I was jus at the studio 2 days ago n a producer there was telling me yall worked on ya whole new album together n y’all was proud of it.” Musician Louie Duffelbags said, “Keep trying to understand why but I really can’t. My mans was always smiling and putting everyone onto knowledge on how to feel better. Ima miss getting to be around you. Long live 6dogs.”

How did 6 Dogs die?

While most news outlets reported that the cause of Amick’s death was not known, the Daily Mail reported that the rapper died by suicide on Tuesday morning. The artist hinted at mental health issues when she shared a note on Twitter in November that read: “If you have friends in the music biz call them and check on them. This rat race that we all are in is not cool. Some days I feel like a super hero…”

In an older interview, Amick said he started rapping as an outlet because he was "super depressed." He said, "I was super depressed, you know, I still feel some type of way sometimes but for the most part I'm straight now, but I just needed an outlet.”

"I've always wanted to rap. I remember just sitting in the lifeguard stand, the entire summer, eight hours a day or longer and just sitting down and I was like ‘this sucks, I want to do something with my life,'" he added.

As per his Apple Music biography, “Rapper 6 Dogs achieved internet fame in the late 2010s with a series of melodic songs about depression, suicide, and other heavy topics.”

A Georgia native, Amick grew up in a strict “Super Christian” household. He secretly started rapping as a teenager, hiding his music from his mother.

“My super Christian parents, and all their friends, are super religious and stuff, and I love my childhood but we had this homeschooling group or whatever. I loved them, it was so fun we would just do stuff in the woods, make forts, like legos and stuff like that. I love my childhood, I'm glad I wasn't just watching T.V. and stuff like that. I was reading books and doing stuff which contributed to my creativity,” he said in a 2017 interview

He added, “After that my sister and I went to this Christian private school, which was very cultish. So that happened. I went there until the 5th grade, then I went to this public school in this one county, and it's one of the most racist counties in Georgia. But I didn't really like notice that because I was just in 6th grade and we were kids. As I got older, in the 8th grade, I started noticing how people were. I kind of convinced my parents to move because I really did not want to go to that high school. So now I'm at the high school I'm at now.”

Amick started uploading songs to SoundCloud in 2016. He went viral with ‘Flossing’ at the age of 17. In 2018, he released the EP ‘6 Wolves’.
