Did Madonna ignore her illness? Singer reportedly resisted hospitalization to prioritize her 'labor of love' Celebration Tour
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Madonna allegedly resisted being sent to the hospital before being intubated due to a serious bacterial infection after being found unresponsive over the weekend. The 64-year-old pop icon, who was photographed walking in NYC just one day before collapsing, expressed concerns about her much-awaited Celebration tour being postponed and was metaphorically "kicking and screaming" out of fear, as per TMZ.
After spending several days in the ICU, Madonna was discharged on Thursday, June 29. However, she is apparently still unable to get out of bed and is experiencing uncontrollable vomiting, and has been too sick to carry on with her usual activities. Earlier reports stated that Madonna had been dealing with persistent low-grade fever for about a month prior to her unexpected hospitalization. Her manager confirmed that the tour, which was about to commence on July 15, had been postponed due to the icon's ongoing health issues.
'Rehearsals are six days a week'
Madonna has been dedicated to her tour preparations, maintaining an intensive rehearsal schedule leading up to the event. According to her former backup dancer, Jose Xtravaganza, the "Queen of Pop" has been rehearsing six days a week for several months, as reported by Daily Mail. "Rehearsals are six days a week from what I hear... the only day off is Sunday," Jose said, adding, "I think it's gonna be a great show, full of costume. There's a lot of dancing going on. The dance troupe is large. When we went on tour, it was just seven of us. I think now there's, there's at least anywhere from 15 to 20 of them. They are trained in different fields of dance different types of artistic expression to be to be shown in the show. I believe there's gonna be like a lot of martial arts like boxing. She's very into boxing and things like that. So I think she's going to revisit a lot of those things that she's shown in the past. It's definitely not to be missed."
'Her perfectionism is driving everyone up the wall'
Madonna's Celebration tour was intended to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her illustrious music career, serving as a special milestone for the iconic artist. Her previous tour, Madame X Tour, which commenced in September 2019, was unfortunately cut short in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
A source mentioned that Madonna's determination to make the tour perfect stemmed from the possibility that it could be her last back in April. They also praised her impressive physical condition, stating that her body was in remarkable shape. "This is her labor of love. Her perfectionism is driving everyone up the wall but she does not care. The crew is working their a** off because everyone wants to make her happy. She has no issues whatsoever with firing someone at the drop of a hat," the informer claimed.
