As 'Botched' Season 7 premieres, we look back at some of the controversial moments that have been associated with the show. One of them happens to be a $10M lawsuit Dr Terry Dubrow, 62, has been embroiled in for a while now.

The renowned plastic surgeon and television star has filed a defamation lawsuit after a patient sued him for $10 million. Former buttock-lift patient Sandy Scoggins' lawyer Stephen Le Brocq claimed in a lawsuit that she was "botched by botched."

Dubrow's lawsuit pointed out that Le Brocq made "false statements against him to garner sympathy for his client", who alleged that she had nearly died under Dubrow’s care. In the court documents obtained by Page Six, Dubrow claimed that Scoggins allegedly tried to extort him for $5 million, failing which she would report him to the California Medical Board. This was in October 2020. There's not been any substantial update on this yet.

This lawsuit has been quite the bother and the sooner Dubrow is able to settle it the better. But that seems highly unlikely given the massive claims made by Scoggins' lawyer. "Dubrow’s operation was so incredibly incompetent that not only did our client’s wounds tear open immediately after her six-figure surgery, but she also developed sepsis and nearly died from Dubrow’s negligence on multiple occasions," Le Brocq pointed out in his filing and added that Dubrow left medical equipment in Scoggins' body just to complete his TV shoot.

"A camera crew for Botched was rushing Dubrow to finish with our client’s surgery since his show was about to start filming a new patient. It has taken more than a year’s time and multiple surgeries before our client no longer had large, open wounds on her body left by Dubrow," it added. The papers also blamed Dubrow for not accepting responsibility and making claims of extortion. "Our client’s life was turned upside down and nearly taken by Dubrow, and he is attempting to suppress the truth of his incompetence with a confidential arbitration clause," the papers further read.

Dubrow, in his filing, had a logical explanation for all of this and why he was in the right to file the papers. In the documents, he claimed that Scoggins was made aware of the risks involved with her surgery and that she was provided with care. He also refuted Scoggins' allegations that he had stopped communicating with her post-operation. Dubrow revealed he was in touch with her and that she had “admitted in written communications that her complications resulted from ‘nothing . . . anyone did wrong’ and acknowledged that she ‘know[s] all this is so common and [she] was warned of the potential side effects.'"

Catch more of Dubrow when 'Botched' Season 7 premieres on May 18, Tuesday, on E! at 9/8c. For more information, check your local listings.
